Designed specifically for the mobile communications sector, a connector solution has been announced by HUBER+SUHNER. The 4.3-10 connector system combines high electrical and mechanical performance, small size and ease of installation. These make it suited for base station designs, distributed antenna systems (DAS), in-building architecture and small cell applications.

This connector offers a very low PIM performance together with significant weight and size advantages. A key feature of the 4.3-10 is the separation of the electrical and mechanical planes to provide a PIM and RL optimised contact, no matter which coupling mechanism is selected. These characteristics allow HUBER+SUHNER to offer the connector plug with a screw, hand screw or quick lock design on one universal female connector to simplify installation while offering a very high electrical performance for all mechanisms.

Other features include high screening efficiency and a 60% weight saving when compared to larger RF interfaces. IEC standardisation is pending.

In base stations, the 4.3-10 will be used both within the remote radio head and as an interface on the antenna and on the jumpers. In multi-operator, multiband DAS it will be used where RF signals have to be combined, terminated or distributed to the antenna.

The other development group members were Rosenberger, SPINNER and Telegärtner.
