A mid-mount USB 3.1 Type-C receptacle with an efficient design, has been developed by Hirose, which offers a compact footprint to save valuable board space. Featuring a depth of only 8.35mm, the shorter design creates additional board space for optimising antenna designs and space for larger batteries. By comparison, conventional Type-C connectors are significantly longer, up to 9.4mm, which uses valuable board space.

The connector features a hybrid design and utilises both surface-mount and through-hole soldering to minimise the board mounting space needed. The design also facilitates automated optical inspection and eases reworking of the solder terminal joints with a visible lead design.

The receptacle is user-friendly and features a symmetrical mating face to allow insertion of a reversible plug to prevent incorrect insertion.

The CX Series is USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C compliant interface connector and supports 5Gbps for high-speed applications.

A wide range of applications are suitable such as control systems, drones, medical devices, smart meters, point-of-sale equipment, imaging equipment and many other small portable devices.
