A miniature version of the company’s Amphe-Mine EX connector series, Amphenol has introduced an explosion-proof, heavy duty hazardous rated connector series. Offering outstanding performance in automated process control and instrumentation systems, the Amphe-Coal EX is suited for use in classified facilities such as underground mining sites where machinery requires more power and signal in a smaller interface.

Made up of environmentally sealed plugs and receptacles, the Amphe-Coal EX series is certified for use in IECEx Group 1 – mining in Australia, and is going through MA, mining certification in China. The series provides a reliable connection in power distribution, data acquisition and transmission, communication systems, process control, embedded computing and other applications where zone or class-rated connectors are required.

These compact, environmental connectors offer exceptional mating properties and come in high grade 316 stainless steel. The Group 1 shell is only offered in stainless steel, while Group II and Group III come in stainless steel, aluminium or brass. Shell sizes include 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19. In addition to its use of flameproof rated cable glands, the Amphe-Coal EX series features high quality copper contacts with silver plating (gold plating available as an option).

The Amphe-Coal EX offers up to 217A at 1,250VDC and 900VAC as well as a broad range of inserts ranging between 2 and 79 contacts. When connected together, the unit’s plug and socket are mechanically interlocked by means of a threaded nut retained by a locking set screw.

Pricing for the Amphe-Coal EX starts at $250 per unit, with delivery eight weeks ARO.
