Enabling manufacturers to immediately develop USB 3.1 Type-C connectors and quickly get them to market, Lattice Semiconductor has introduced a USB 3.1 Type-C power delivery solution. It addresses all the critical power-related functions required by the USB 3.1 Type-C specification, which defines very small jacks suited to mobile devices.

The inherent flexibility of USB 3.1 Type-C power delivery solution allows it to be easily customised to meet the specific requirements of USB Type-C applications, enabling users to adjust to last-minute protocol, specification and other critical changes much more rapidly than with ASSPs.

The power delivery silicon is in production and the system is ready now, allowing users to begin development efforts immediately.

The company’s iCE40 FPGAs are at the core of Lattice’s solution. Claimed to feature an industry-leading combination of programmability, low power and small size, the FPGAs are suited for this application.
