Multi-Contact are today pleased to announce the release of the 21BV, a connector providing heavy duty power cables with highly reliable connection and disconnection. The 21BV is a round, single-pole insulated connector that provides reliable operation for as many as 5000 mating cycles.
Intended applications include connecting mobile generator sets, standby power units, switchgear, event cabling, test facilities and other uses where copper cables need to be joined together or plugged into panel mounted sockets.

The 21BV has a number of advantages over Multi-Contact's comparable 30BV connector, being more compact, easier to assemble and with a higher current carrying capacity of 800 A.

Another outstanding benefit of the 21BV is that it is less than half the price of the 30BV, said Multi-Contact UK managing director Selwyn Corns.

The 21 mm diameter CAT III connector is well suited for external use, providing environmental protection to IP65 and IP68 when mated, with an extended temperature range of -40 degC to +120 degC. It is IP2X touch protected when unmated. Termination is by crimping or threaded lug.

The rated voltage is 1000 V and conductor cross-sections between 150 mm2 and

400 mm2 are accepted. Colour marking is provided on the insulation, and six mechanical codings are available to prevent misconnections.

An innovative bayonet locking system makes connection simple and secure. The connectors are easy to assemble, without the need for special tools. A locking pin prevents accidental disconnection and the connector can only be unlocked using a separate tool.

An optional panel mount adapter can dress the cable downwards to save space and minimise transverse forces. Strain relief is provided by cable glands available in two different sizes.

A remote indication of when the connector is mated can be provided with the optional MS-S21 microswitch, which switches immediately before the locking device engages.
