A family of mainboards supporting next-gen Intel microarchitecture code named Skylake has been introduced by Fujitsu. Manufactured in 14nm technology, the processors with LGA 1151 sockets will fit into Fujitsu mainboards with the form factors ATX, µATX, and mini-ITX.

The mainboards will be offered in the Classic Desktop series, Extended Lifecycle series, and the Industrial series. The boards in the Industrial series are specifically developed for embedded applications. According to the study The world market for embedded computer boards, modules and systems – 2014 edition by market research company IHS, the form factors ATX, µATX, and mini-ITX cover approximately 70% of the market for standalone embedded industrial mainboards in the EMEA region.

In autumn 2015, Intel announced the introduction of Skylake, the first new Intel microarchitecture developed for the 14nm manufacturing process. With Fujitsu being part of the Intel platform validation programme, the market launch of their products is timed to coincide with the official Intel product launch.

Peter Hoser, Sales Director, Systemboard OEM, Fujitsu, commented: “Embedded manufacturers working with x86 platforms often demand a variety of form factors, depending on the design task. These boards with various form factors and chipsets meet all requirements of the customers regarding manageability, scalability, and functionality. It is an advantage for users if they can obtain high-quality mainboards in all form factors from a single manufacturer, especially if the basic layout of industrial mainboards remains the same over several generations. This helps embedded developers save time in two ways: They do not have to get used to something new, and usually do not even have to change their system design when a new board replaces the preceding one. Therefore, we continuously get very positive feedback from the market on our family concept, which is why we remain faithful to it through the next-gen Intel microarchitecture code named Skylake.”

The mainboards supporting Intel microarchitecture code named Skylake will become available in the autumn/winter of 2015.
