Following Fujitsu’s introduction of the motherboards of the Classic Desktop and Extended Lifecycle series with the latest generation of Intel Core processors, the company is now presenting models specifically for industrial use. The D3445-S and D3446-S are designed for continuous operation in an extended temperature range from 0° to 60°C and have a guaranteed availability of five years.

The requirements for industrial use are fulfilled with strict revision control and consistent lifecycle management as well as extensive documentation and certifications. The models have comparatively low power consumption in all operating states due to an optimised, efficient design of the voltage converter. The ATX form factor with its multitude of PCIe slots also offers expandability.

The flagship of the series is the D3446-S with the Intel C236 chipset for workstations and servers. Thus, the board supports both the Intel Xeon processor and Intel Core processors of the 6th generation. The latter also allows the use of DDR4 memory for the first time. It is more powerful compared to the previous standard DDR3. The ECC function (Error Correction Code) is available with Intel Core i3, Intel Xeon, Intel Pentium-G and Intel Celeron processors. Thanks to the Intel C236 chipset this model also offers management features such as Intel AMT and Intel vPro (out-of-band manageability). Despite missing PCI support of the Intel C236 chipset, Fujitsu has also included two PCI slots on the D3446-S. In addition, it provides PCIe-based SSD modules (AHCI) by means of a M.2 carrier board and supports the D3446-S with the mSATA base Mini-PCI Express module.

The D3445-S is especially recommended for low cost industrial systems. It is based on the Intel H110 chipset. Compared to the D3446-S, a mSATA slot, the ECC support, support for Intel Xeon processors as well as the management capabilities Intel AMT and Intel vPro are omitted. Both models of the industrial series have two Intel Gigabit Ethernet ports and at least one RS232 port, a parallel port connection as well as the Fujitsu functions such as Watchdog, SilentFan and EraseDisk. Moreover, the mainboards allow in addition to the Intel Core processors the use of Skylake-based Intel Pentium G processors and the future Intel Celeron processors.

“We are pleased to offer mainboards with the latest technology now to our industrial customers. The requirements in this area are high and it is essential that the hardware is stable and tested to ensure trouble-free operation. As the current models of the Fujitsu Industrial Series mainboard family are so interesting, two mini-ITX models based on Intel and Intel Q170 chipset H110 will be added in the first quarter of 2016. Thus the demand for smaller systems is met,” commented Peter Hoser, Sales Director OEM, Fujitsu.

The mainboards, which are manufactured in the Fujitsu factory in Augsburg (Germany), are available through various industrial distributors such as Rutronik, MSC Technologies, Bicker Elektronik, Avnet Embedded, Review Display Systems and Braemac. Technical support is guaranteed by trained employees of distributors and by the experts from the factory in Augsburg. The team in Augsburg is also supported by the mainboard development (BIOS and hardware), sourcing and engineering of components, production and production technology as well as the in-house product compliance centre and system engineering which are all located at the same site.
