Wilson Process Systems invests to ensure systems survive outdoor environments
Wilson Process Systems (WPS), the leading contract manufacturer, is responding to customer requirements for greater levels of environmental protection for systems that are increasingly being used outdoors. The automotive market has had to protect electronics systems for years using conformal coating and resin encapsulation, and other markets such as the industrial and military sectors also require protection.
HoweComments WPS Sales Manager, Steve Cooke: “We are now seeing a greater demand from customers where protecting the electronics is critical in delivering a reliable product. Wilson Process Systems has been specializing in protective coatings for the past 12 years and has invested in new equipment to allow processes to be fully automated, which has brought great cost benefits to commercial applications.”
Initially purchased to ensure cost-effective, high-quality conformal coating of PCBs destined for use in the outdoor illuminated signage industry, WPS’ two fully-automated Assymtek conformal coating machines are the fastest, most accurate systems in the market. Fan width control automatically adjusts to allow for variations in the viscosity of the coating, which is applied to Mil spec thicknesses using a non-atomising process, which ensures that the coating only covers the required board parts, without any requirement for masking, which is a time-consuming, costly, and potentially damaging operation.
Adds Cooke: “The automated process is suitable for acrylic coatings, such as HumiSeal’s 1R32A-2. We can also offer aqueous coatings and have a great deal of experience developing fully encapsulated products which are potted to ensure complete environmental protection and stability.”
