Don Gerstle, Murata Power Solutions' Vice President of Design Quality has received a Distinguished Committee Service Award from the IPC. The award was made in appreciation and recognition of contributions in the development of IPC-9592A, Requirements for Power Conversion Devices for the Computer and Telecommunications Industries.
First released in 2008, IPC-9592 sets the requirements for design, qualification testing, conformance testing and manufacturing quality / reliability processes for power supplies and DC-DC converters in the telecom, IT and computer industries. The standard was revised in June 2010 when revision A was issued. Revision A provides preconditioning tests for Category 2 printed board surface mount power conversion modules with DC-DC converters. These tests will simulate stresses encountered during the solder reflow assembly process. Revision A also expands the coverage of moisture sensitivity levels, corrosion and highly accelerated life testing (HALT) of power conversion devices.

I am delighted to receive this award, comments Don Gerstle, Vice President of Design Quality at Murata Power Solutions. IPC-9592 is very important to the power industry as it ensures customers receive consistently high quality product. Revision A to this key standard will provide suppliers and end-users of power converters with expanded guidance for design qualification testing.
