Texas Instruments and Ittiam Systems today announced a new feature rich customizable and scalable Internet Protocol (IP) video phone solution based on TI’s system-on-a-chip (SoC) and software, allowing equipment manufacturers who are building IP phones to introduce video phone products into their portfolio without costly redesigns. Leveraging TI’s existing Gigabit Ethernet IP phone platform with Telogy Software™ for VoIP, high-performance TI DaVinci™ technology, and Ittiam’s powerful video engine software, the new platform maintains high quality VoIP performance and the flexibility to incorporate compelling next-generation video functionality such as video conferencing.

TI’s IP phone platform with video and multimedia functionality is a cost-effective and modular solution that allows customers to design one phone and reuse it across several markets to meet the varied demands of large enterprises, small to medium businesses (SMBs) and residential segments. It also leverages TI’s leadership in IP phone silicon and software to provide the best voice quality possible, while providing a compelling video engine from Ittiam with the addition of TI’s DaVinci technology. The IP phone solution leverages TI’s TNETV1051, a Gigabit Ethernet IP phone platform designed on a flexible and powerful digital signal processing platform (DSP) and incorporates robust security and enhanced voice quality features. TI’s DaVinci technology provides OEMs with a software-programmable and scalable integrated digital video platform that can support the development of virtually all digital video applications. Because TI customers can leverage a broad range of DaVinci-based technology for video processing and reuse the same platform for voice, this enables a solution set that can be scaled across the entire spectrum of video phone products, without having to redesign the whole phone each time.

“TI’s partnership with Ittiam allows our customers to introduce compelling video conferencing and streaming video capabilities into their product offering by empowering them with powerful TI DaVinci video processing capabilities, TI’s proven VoIP solutions and Ittiam’s robust video engine software,” said Fred Zimmerman, director of CPE solutions for TI's voice solutions business unit. “Partnering with Ittiam, an experienced DSP software developer ensures that TI’s customers will be able to take advantage of exciting IP video features and high quality voice while maintaining the ability to offer differentiated products to meet the demands of businesses of all sizes.”

“Ittiam’s extensive experience and installed base in video phone and streaming media systems adds significant value to OEMs when combined with TI’s powerful DaVinci-based technology and VoIP processor,” said Rohit Bhuva, vice president, business development of Ittiam. “This new platform based on TI’s voice and Ittiam’s video co-processing capabilities provides our customers with the confidence to take a wide-range of products to market quickly.”
