A range of switch disconnectors from specialist distributor Switchtec are particularly useful for applications that are subjected to wet, arduous conditions including outside use.

The TenD TD and TDS switch disconnectors are rated to IP65 and their main area of use is for isolating incoming supplies to a machine or equipment. The switches are used as the main on/off switch or isolating switch for general isolating duties or as emergency padlockable on/off switches within the contractor and control industries.
Both enclosed and panel mounting versions of the switches are available. All of the TD enclosed switches are mounted in an IP65 plastic enclosure, whilst TDS door/panel mounted switches have an IP65 handle, and all terminals are IP20 touch proof.

The TD and TDS switches are available in 16, 25, 32, 40, 63 and 80A variants. For versatility, all sizes are available in three or four pole versions. All are supplied with red and yellow padlockable handles, lockable in the off position. These handles are door interlocked and therefore enclosure doors cannot be opened whilst in the on position.
The TD enclosed switches are supplied in two sizes of enclosure; 16A to 40A in 128 x 116 x 85mm enclosures, and 63A and 80A in 180x180x100mm enclosures. All enclosures come with six knockouts, two on the bottom, two on the top and two at the rear. On the 16A to 40A enclosures the knockouts are M20 size, and on the 63A and 80A they are M25.

All base mounted switches are supplied with a shaft and handle, so there is just one part number for simple ordering. These can be surface or Din rail mounted, and they have an easy 'snap in' 300mm shaft that can be cut to size. All door/panel mounted switches are supplied with handle.

Complimenting and completing the TD and TDS ranges are terminal shrouds and auxiliary contacts. These can be added to any of the range.

Switchtec used its market experience of over 10 years selling enclosed switches to the UK market when specifying the TenD TD and TDS ranges. For example, Switchtec specified the TD enclosed switches with four plastic screws to clamp the lid onto the base. This ensures that the IP65 rating is maintained, as other enclosed switches often use just two centrally located screws that if not tightened correctly can lead to ingress at the corners of the enclosure where the compression force is reduced. The four screws are self-retaining, as some enclosed switches' screws fall out when the lid is inverted. Further, the switches are designed for use in areas that can be exposed to 'all weather' conditions, hence plastic screws will not corrode over time.

With the Installer in mind, the positioning of the screw terminals inside the enclosure has been logically placed to provide simple and easy connection of cables. In addition to the switching poles, the TD range has additional earth and neutral terminals to give continuity of earth through the switch, which is essential for maximum safety, even in an all-plastic enclosed switch.

The TenD switch disconnectors will find favour with panel builders, generator and equipment manufacturers, and in the air conditioning/refrigeration and heating & ventilation industries. Units are available ex stock from Switchtec, who are also able to provide full technical backup and support both from base and in the field.
