The SmartMX2 technology, developed by NXP Semiconductors, is claimed to be the world’s first secure smart card platform with MIFARE Plus and MIFARE DESFire EV1 functionality to be certified at Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 5+. This certification allows services to be enhanced, providing security for electronic health cards or identity cards which have a payment and access functionality. Secure services in banking, e-Government identification, transportation, micro payments and loyalty tracking are also enabled.

Offering developers the convenience of a ready to use solution with the flexibility of a full set of MIFARE Plus and MIFARE DESFire protocol parameters, the SmartMX2 family is supported by the MIFARE Flex framework. To build secure applications, users can also deploy NXP’s common criteria certified crypto library modules. Three certified SmartMX2 platform types support all MIFARE Plus and/or MIFARE DESFire EV1 card data variations. To optimise the use of existing infrastructures, these platforms can be configured with MIFARE Classic.

NXP will be exhibiting the SmartMX2 family in booth 4M070 at CARTES 2014, from 4th to 6th November 2014, at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre, in Paris.
