Sensirion to Open New Development Department in Taiwan

Sensirion has today announced that it is expanding its international corporate network by opening a research and development department at the Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park in Taiwan. With this step, Sensirion is consolidating its cooperation with suppliers on-site and can benefit from the local semiconductor industry's know-how. Setting up the research facility in Taiwan involves the employment of additional staff.

The geographical proximity of MEMS development and suppliers reduces the development period of our sensors and speeds up innovative processes, states Felix Meyer, Sensirion's Co-CEO. Microelectromechanical systems form the basis for sensors that measure humidity, temperature, and gas and liquid flows. Sensirion supplies companies from the consumer-electronics, automotive, medical-technology, and building-technology industries with vast quantities of sensors. The Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park in Taiwan is well known for its large number of semiconductor manufacturers and extensive expertise in this area. A local research laboratory will thus be of advantage to our customers around the globe, adds Felix Meyer.

The opening of the research and development department in Taiwan will have no effect on the approximately 350 positions in Switzerland. The headquarters and production site in Stäfa, Zurich, will also be expanded, in order to accommodate the growing company and meet the increasing worldwide demand for humidity, temperature, and mass-flow sensors.
