At the ILA Berlin Air Show, Rohde & Schwarz will for the first time present a communications intelligence system for airborne deployment to the public. Used in border protection, maritime rescue operations or military missions, for example, the onboard system always reliably detects, identifies and locates radio signals.
The Rohde & Schwarz solution is integrated into the DA42 MPP Guardian from Diamond Airborne Sensing, a subsidiary of Diamond Aircraft Industries, and will be presented on this platform in Berlin.

Airborne communications intelligence significantly increases the efficiency of monitoring and intelligence missions. Airborne platforms make it much easier to monitor difficult-to-access terrains, the open sea and green borders. Radio signals can be detected, identified and located regardless of the time of day and the visibility conditions. A specialist for radiomonitoring and radiolocation equipment, Rohde & Schwarz offers a scalable COMINT system that has been optimized for deployment on airborne platforms.

The system is available in three different configurations – basic version, standard version and advanced version. It can be flexibly adapted to customer requirements and expanded as needed. Broadband signal interception and processing ensures that signals are reliably detected. It is even possible to monitor multiple radio channels per frequency band. Rohde & Schwarz has based its airborne COMINT system on tried-and-tested equipment, such as the R&S ESMD wideband monitoring receiver and a compact direction finding antenna that has practically no influence on the flight characteristics of the aircraft.

Rohde & Schwarz chose the DA42 MPP from Diamond Airborne Sensing to carry the system. This multipurpose platform, which is based on the twin-engine DA42 NG, was designed to accommodate monitoring and intelligence modules. Its outstanding performance data and its low operating and investment costs make the aircraft the ideal carrier platform for compact COMINT systems.

The airborne monitoring and intelligence solution from Rohde & Schwarz and Diamond Airborne Sensing will have its first public premiere at the ILA Berlin Air Show (Diamond Static Display S2/314 317 and Chalet East 32).
