Rapid Electronics has announced the appointment of Ron McConnachie as Chief Operating Officer. After a year with the electronic components distributor as Procurement Manager, Ron takes over responsibility for day-to-day management and business development, with a particular focus on sales, marketing, customer service and acquisition.

Despite a turbulent year for the components sector, the Colchester-based company have experienced strong growth in its core areas, and in July celebrates its 30th year of business. ‘This is of course a challenging time to be in distribution’, said Ron. ‘But with Rapid’s despatch times among the best in the industry, an extensive product range and superb relationships with our suppliers, Rapid are well placed not only to survive but to thrive.’

Further developing an award-winning website, combining offline and online marketing, improving the procurement process and expanding benefits for account holders will be among Ron’s main objectives. ‘My message for customers of Rapid would be ”challenge us”. Challenge us to give you better value for money in service, product and price. Over the next 12 months, amongst many other projects, we will be focusing on expanding our volume pricing service and preferential pricing options for Key Customers. Rapid has always been customer led, and this will remain our key commitment.’

Commenting on the appointment, Michael Lee, co-founder and Director of Rapid, said: ‘This is a positive and progressive move for Rapid, particularly in our 30th anniversary year. Ron brings a wealth of experience to the role, a vision for the company and an excellent knowledge of the distribution business. He is committed to supporting the products we stock and the customers we serve.’
