Partnership promotes exports between UK and India

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the UK electrotechnical association, BEAMA, and its Indian equivalent, the Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA). Focusing on the themes of best practice, business delegation and international standardisation exchange, the MoU comes at a time of increased political and business collaboration between the UK and India.

The formal signing took place on 13th May 2017 and was the culmination of a visit to London by an Indian Business Delegation lead by India’s Energy Minister, Mr Piyush Goyal.

BEAMA’s Deputy CEO Kelly Butler says the MoU paves the way towards very specific activities between the two associations in the coming year: “BEAMA has spent the past three years hosting inward delegations and taking potential exporters to events and missions in India and we see the potential for UK businesses to export to the sub-continent. The UK has spent over £600m developing our learning in smart grids, and with the Indian Government committed to 100% electrification supported by a mix of renewable energy and storage growth, we must not waste this opportunity to capitalise on our know how and innovative product ranges.

"In the coming months we will work with IEEMA to advise them on how to set up an electrical vehicle infrastructure division and we plan to take a group of companies to the Elecrama show in March 2018, enhanced by a fringe event programme co-developed by our new Indian partners. I have agreed with IEEMA’s Director General Mr Sunil Misra that we will remain committed to best practice exchange and helping each other provide mutually beneficial support for our member companies. My own priority is to ensure the Indian ambition for electrification is not only a platform for export but that it is also built on the specification of bona fide and compliant products.”

BEAMA will be managing the UK’s exhibition programme at Elecrama (10th-14th March 2018) and has secured Department for International Trade funded exhibitor grants which will be available to eligible companies
