Nexeon has today announced the appointment of Tsuyonobu Hatazawa as its new Chief Technology Officer with immediate effect. Nexeon has also announced the opening of an office in Tokyo, Japan, its first outside the UK, and closer to many potential customers and partners in the sector.

Previously employed at Sony where he pioneered the development of gel electrolytes and polymer Li-ion batteries, Hatazawa will split his time between the UK and Japan offices.

Hatazawa brings with him 30 years’ materials development experience, much of it in batteries, and is very well known in the industry having worked under Dr Yoshio Nishi. Prior to working at Sony, he worked on optical films and polymer materials for displays at Sekisui Chemical Company.

He has been the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the Japan Electrical Chemical Technology Award (Tanabashi Award) and several Sony awards for commercially successful battery development. The appointment of Hatazawa will see Dr Bill Macklin move to another role within the company.

Dr Scott Brown, CEO of Nexeon, comments: “We are highly delighted to have attracted Hatazawa to join our Executive team at Nexeon. His tremendous experience will provide a strong boost for our development efforts, and the new Japan office will ensure we can maintain the closest links with our OEM partners in Asia.”

Nexeon has recently achieved both ISO 9001 quality management and ISO14001 environmental management certification.
