Littelfuse, Inc. will celebrate its 85th anniversary this month. The company was founded in 1927 by Edward V. Sundt, who invented the first small, fast-acting protective fuse to prevent sensitive test meters from burning out.
Since then, Littelfuse has grown to become the global leader in circuit protection and the preferred brand for leading manufacturers in the automotive, electronics and electrical industries. The company is also expanding into fast-growing markets that complement its core business.

We are proud to celebrate 85 years of growth and innovation,” said Gordon Hunter, President and Chief Executive Officer of Littelfuse. “Through decades of design and technology innovation, successful strategies and acquisitions, we have built a strong company that is well positioned for future growth.”

“Our mission through the years has been to develop innovative circuit protection solutions that meet the unique needs of our customers, while maintaining the highest business standards. This philosophy has served us well and will continue to drive our growth in the years ahead,” said Hunter. “We owe our success to our talented associates, whose expertise, dedication and support have helped to grow the company from our founder’s first sale for $1.10 to a global competitor with revenues of $665 million in 2011.”

Over the past 85 years, through new product innovation and successful strategic acquisitions, Littelfuse has built the broadest and deepest portfolio of overvoltage and overcurrent solutions in the electronics industry. The company has also expanded its capabilities to include a leading offering of power switching devices. From popular consumer electronic devices such as tablets, smart phones and digital cameras, to home entertainment systems and appliances, telecommunications infrastructure equipment, power control and critical life-saving medical equipment, today Littelfuse protects virtually every product that uses electrical energy.

Littelfuse entered the automotive market in the 1930s, and over the next eight decades, helped revolutionize automotive circuit protection with many products, such as blade and bolt fuses, that have become the industry standard. Across the globe, automakers rely on Littelfuse to enhance vehicle safety and reliability, protect sophisticated electronics and meet the growing need for high-current technology in vehicles. The company has also extended its automotive expertise into the commercial vehicle products segment. Today, the Littelfuse CVP product portfolio includes an extensive line of heavy-duty electromechanical and solid-state switches and accessories for DC electrical systems.

In 1982, Littelfuse entered the electrical circuit protection market with the introduction of its new line of electrical fuses for general industrial and commercial applications. In 2008, the electrical circuit protection portfolio was expanded with the addition of a comprehensive line of protection relays and power distribution centers for safe control and distribution of electricity in mining operations.
