KEMET files SEC special disclosure & conflict minerals report

In accordance with SEC guidelines, KEMET’s Conflict Minerals Report underwent an independent third-party audit. As outlined in the May 2016 disclosure, KEMET describes the following products as conflict-free:

• Tantalum Surface Mount Capacitors (MnO2)
• Tantalum Polymer Surface Mount Capacitors (KO)
• Tantalum Non-Surface Mount Capacitors
• Ceramic Surface Mount Capacitors (MLCC)
• Electrolytic Non-Surface Mount Capacitors
• Aluminium Polymer Surface Mount Capacitors (AO)

100% of all KEMET manufactured tantalum capacitors are now described as conflict-free. KEMET expects to reach conflict-free status for all capacitor products by the end of calendar year 2016.

Since 2010, KEMET has taken a leading role in a project that focused on the sourcing of conflict-free tantalum ores from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This resulted in one of the electronics industry's first comprehensive, socially and economically sustainable sourcing models based on tantalum ore and culminated in the only closed-pipe, vertically integrated conflict-free supply chain.

KEMET investments in an industrial conflict-free mine as well as a number of infrastructure improvements, including a hospital, school, clean water wells and solar powered street lighting, have made a substantial humanitarian impact in the mining village of Kisengo. These contributions have markedly improved the lives of the people in the village, increased KEMET’s competitiveness and provide ongoing value to customers.
