ISLI Receives a Presidential Visit

The Institute for System Level Integration (iSLI) recently received a prestigious visit from His Excellency Mr Valdas Adamkus, President of the Republic of Lithuania. As a guest of the British Government and a visitor of the Queen, the President expressed an interest in visiting a research and innovation company during his stay in the UK. Subsequently, the iSLI and Alba Centre, accredited as a Centre of Excellence, were approached to host the Lithuanian President and showcase the organisation’s cutting-edge research capabilities and expertise.
Tony Harker, CEO of iSLI, and Scott Wilson, Senior Executive of the Microelectronics team, delivered presentations to further acquaint the President with the iSLI’s expansive research capability. A Lithuanian Business delegation listened to a series of presentations from iSLI. His Excellency Mr Valdas Adamkus met with John Reekie, iSLI Team Leader, the Microelectronic & Opto Team, Scottish Enterprise and the iSLI Senior Team.

During the time spent with us his Excellency got a broad overview of our key activities which have the potential to be expanded and adopted by countries such as Lithuania. Having such an honoured guest visit ISLI and the Alba Centre is a great indictment of the important place our facilities hold within Scotland, the UK and Europe"



David Cumming, Managing Director of Intelligent Earth, pioneers of artificial intelligence technology and Tom Fitzpatrick and Bill Gemmell from Guest Technologies Europe were also introduced to the President to relay their groundbreaking achievements in innovation.

Founded in 1998, ISLI (the Institute for System Level Integration) provides postgraduate education, professional training and research in system level integration incorporating cross over technologies such as hardware, embedded software, MNT/MEMS.



A collaboration of the computing science, informatics and electronic engineering departments of the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt and Strathclyde, and Scottish Enterprise, the Institute is the first centre of excellence in system level integration to be established worldwide. Its aim is to support the development of electronics systems design worldwide and to encourage the exploration of new technologies through research.
