Innovasic Semiconductor announced the availability of its new RapID Platform connectivity solution for Profinet RT devices. Engineers that need to add Profinet RT to their automation products can now download everything they need to quickly integrate into new or existing product designs. The entire platform can be downloaded directly from the Innovasic website for a risk-free, no cost evaluation. This is not just a demo version – it is fully functional and pre-tested for Profinet conformance including electronic schematics, bill of materials, and layout files, as well as all of the necessary software, stacks, and development environment. Evaluation of the RapID Platform download can be performed on hardware via the Internet or at the customer’s site.
“Innovasic’s new RapID Platform is a first for the industry” said Keith Prettyjohns, Innovasic’s CEO. “Engineers can now quickly and easily add Profinet connectivity to their products without wasting time re-inventing the wheel. They can download the entire platform, free of charge for evaluation. A one-time license fee applies only if the platform is used in production,” he added.

The solution is centered on Innovasic’s fido1100 communication controller which handles all of the Profinet traffic. The RapID Platform can be used as a “network processor” alongside any host microcontroller. It can also be used as a standalone solution with the customer’s application running directly on the RapID Platform. All software is royalty-free with no hidden fees. The schematic has been carefully designed to provide robust, long-life, industrial-class performance at the lowest possible bill of material (BOM) cost. The Ethernet physical interface includes protection circuitry, bicolor LEDs, and magnetics integrated in the connector. Profinet cycle time is 1ms (minimum) with 1440 bytes for cyclic input data and 1440 bytes for cyclic output data. Alarms are programmable and include Process Alarm, Diagnostic Alarm, and Return of Sub Module.
