The SmartFusion2 SoC FPGA and IGLOO2 FPGA, manufactured by Microsemi, has completed the NSA's IAD (Information Assurance Directorate) SIG (Secure Implementation Guidelines) document. These families, the company claims, are the only FPGAs to have completed this.

An overview of design and data security features that are most relevant to a set of IA systems use models, along with guidelines for security policies, have been provided by this SIG process. With this, defence system designers using SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 FPGA devices are better able to address and mitigate security threats.

SIGs have been positioned as a key element in the Trusted Systems and Networks (TSN) strategy by the DoD. To meet system architect and program management demand from secure communications and cyber security defence contractors, NSA IAD will continue to use this SIG process for FPGAs.

“It is a significant FPGA industry achievement that Microsemi is the first to complete the IAD Secure Implementation Guideline,” said Esam Elashmawi, Vice President and General Manager, SoC Product Group, Microsemi. “The IAD SIG instills trust in our defence systems customers by validating our leading information assurance and anti-tamper security capabilities. It also reduces implementation risk as well as total cost of ownership when utilizing the embedded security features available only in Microsemi’s SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 FPGAs.”
