Fairchild Semiconductor was awarded a 2008 Power Products Award for its FSFR-series in the category of Best Application Award in Power Control ICs. This highly integrated power switch increases power efficiency and system reliability, and simplifies design in resonant converter designs such as telecom power, high-end audio amplifiers, large-size laser printers and LCD and PDP-TV power supplies.
The FSFR2100 features a zero voltage switching (ZVS) technique that dramatically reduces switching losses in MOSFETs and rectifiers. With this technique, this FPS switch can handle up to 200W without a heat sink and up to 450W with a heat sink. Compared to conventional hard-switch converter topologies, efficiency is improved by 10 percent and for applications such as PDP-TVs, efficiency reaches 97 percent. An added advantage of this ZVS technique is the dramatic reduction in switching noise – at least 5dB – compared to hard-switching techniques. Offering burst mode operation, the FSFR2100 brings standby power consumption below 1Watt to easily achieve the industry’s 1Watt Initiative.

The 2008 Power Products Awards are organized by Electronic Design & Application World-Nikkei Electronics China (EDAW-NEC). Fairchild’s Benjamin Tan, regional vice president, Sales, China and SEA, will accept the award at the 2009 Module Power & 6th Power Management Technology Seminar on April 9, 2009 at the Pavilion Hotel in Shenzhen, China.
