Two specialist Cherry keyboards developed for the education market and a Cherry computer mouse designed specifically for children are being shown at BETT 2011, the largest education technology exhibition in the world, which takes place at Olympia, London, from January 12th – 15th.
The Cherry G83-6236 XXL is a comfortable standard-size keyboard with extra-large imprinted characters making it easier for visually-impaired learners to use. The keyboard has standard QWERTY layout and also separate number and cursor blocks. Both letter and number keys are printed the maximum possible size and characters take up the whole of the printable surface of the key cap, unlike normal keyboards which typically have characters printed on less than 30% of the available surface. The bold black characters against the very light grey background of the key material provide visual contract, another feature which assists students with visual difficulties. Key caps are abrasion-proof for long-life and repeated use. The G83-6236 XXL also features comfortable actuation of keys and uniform switching characteristics, thanks to NTK technology which employs elastomeric keys with membrane contact switches. This robust keyboard is guaranteed for two years and is also available in other language versions on request. Recommended retail price is £39.99.

Children love the Cherry Kids Mouse with its bright black and yellow housing – it was developed by the company’s design team in conjunction with nurseries and schools specifically for younger learners. The corded optical Kids Mouse ensures accurate and smooth cursor control with 1000 dpi resolution and its “Plug and Play” installation ensures extremely simple start up. The symmetrical 3 button design and smaller size fits children’s hands and other thoughtful details, such as a particularly long 2 m. cable for connection to the PC, take account of a child’s smaller stature and shorter arms. Additional appealing features include stickers so children can customise their mouse and a matching customisable mouse mat is included in the package. The Kids Mouse works with 64 and 32-bit operating systems, including Window 7™, Windows 2000™, Windows XP™ and Windows Vista™. Guaranteed for three years, the recommended retail price for the Kids Mouse is £14.99.

Also showcasing at BETT is the Cherry G83-6191 keyboard. Small children start to learn to write in lower case and it can be confusing to have to read and recognise the capitals printed on standard keyboards, so this special version of the well-known Cherry G83-6000 series has lower case letters on the keycaps instead of capitals. A proven classic design with millions in use across the whole of Europe and the US, this robust design is guaranteed for heavy use. Recommended retail price is £39.99.
