11.4 Million for the Future of Welsh Businesses

Steve Jones, Managing Director of Quantum CAD, attended the launch held at Clarence House and discussed with HRH, The Prince of Wales, the benefits the scheme offers to Quantum CAD and the Welsh economy. As leaders in the electronics industry, Quantum CAD specialises in product and PCB design, high-speed digital electronics, consulting and training. With highly skilled CID and CID+ qualified designers, Quantum CAD has high hopes that this forward thinking scholarship programme will lead to an increase in high calibre engineers for future expansion.

Steve Jones comments: “As we strive to be a centre of excellence for design in the electronic industry and continue to stay at the forefront of design technologies, we fully support this scholarship programme. It’s an ingenious programme and will only further innovation and advancement of ideas in the Welsh economy.”

The Prince of Wales Innovation Scholarships form part of the University of Wales ‘Global Academy’ programme, developed with its strategic partners, including NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) and the Welsh Assembly Government. The overall purpose of the Academy is to boost the economic and innovative performance of Wales through enhanced synergy between higher education and the private sector.

HRH, The Prince of Wales, also Chancellor of the University of Wales, said: “It seems to me entirely fitting that an institution which was created through the determination and enthusiasm of the ordinary people of Wales should choose to work in the service of those people and I am proud, as the University’s Chancellor, to lend my support to the Scholarships … they are, I think, a very practical – and very exciting – answer to how higher education can help the Welsh economy in a time of crisis.”

As well as creating jobs, the Prince of Wales Innovation Scholarships scheme hopes to ‘inject new ideas and energy into the Welsh economy’. Its aim is to recruit 100 of the world’s top graduates and place them in Welsh companies. The graduates will be in a position to create new innovative products and services in Wales resulting in a shift from heavy industry and improving the Welsh economy.
