Agilent announced that the Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) has approved Agilent's 90000 X-Series oscilloscope and E5071C network analyzer with Option TDR (time-domain reflectometry) to provide SATA Gen 3 Interoperability Program Revision 1.4 product testing and certification. The instruments cover the transmitter, return loss and cable test sections of the SATA Interoperability Program.

Agilent Introduces Three New LTE Design Verification and Conformance Systems
Agilent announced its new design verification and conformance systems for LTE. Geotest Adds Support for Linux and LabVIEW Real-Time

STS Microspectrometer Provides Big Performance in a Small Footprint
Ocean Optics has introduced a family of low-cost, high-performance CMOS detector-based spectrometers that are ideal for embedding into OEM devices. Despite its tiny footprint – less than two inches square (40 mm x 42 mm) and one inch (24 mm) high – STS provides performance comparable to larger systems: full spectral analysis with low stray light, high signal to noise (>1500:1) and typical optical resolution of ~1.5 nm (FWHM). The R&S FSH4 and R&S FSH8 handheld analyzers from Rohde & Schwarz offer comprehensive new functions for detailed measurements in LTE networks. With these handheld spectrum analyzers, users can now perform modulation analysis in the LTE frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) modes. The new options provide a more detailed view of LTE signals than is possible with other manufacturers' instruments. This is a significant advantage when troubleshooting. They are the only handheld analyzers on the market that can analyze the complete LTE frame with up to 10 subframes as called for by the standard. They are also the only ones that support extended cyclic prefix as defined in the standard. The extended cyclic code prefix reduces interference due to delay spread in large radio cells. In addition, the analyzer can be used to test parallel multi-antenna signal transmissions up to 4x4 MIMO.

Unit testing incorporating hardware
The latest version of Tessy, the tool for automated module/unit/integration testing of embedded software, now enables to incorporate hardware in unit and integration testing. The hardware under test either can be the on-chip peripherals of a microcontroller or hardware external to the microcontroller. This enables a so-called hardware-in-the-loop test for unit and integration testing. Such a test makes especially sense if the microcontroller is implemented as soft core in a FPGA, because in this case the on-chip peripherals actually are not hardware, but software, which might change during the course of the development and therefore needs repetitive testing. To accomplish such tests, special test hardware and software is used, which needs to be adapted to the test object in question.
