Huawei Introduces GigaSite Solution to Meet Gigabit Traffic Demand
Huawei, introduced its GigaSite solution at the Global MBB Forum 2011 in Berlin, Germany. Making the announcement, David Wang, President of Wireless Network, Huawei, said "GigaSite is the first of three key mobile solutions that will be announced in the context of what Huawei sees as a Giga World." The GigaSite solution has been specifically designed to enable operators to improve network capacity and meet the challenges of growing in a mobile industry where traffic is now measured in gigabytes.

Kontron's Embedded Platforms provide Thales GateSync System
Kontron announced its partnership with Thales, a leader in In-flight entertainment and connectivity systems, to design and manufacture the Enhanced Terminal Wireless LAN Unit for the company's GateSync system. The Thales GateSync system is a high-performance wireless ground connectivity solution for airports and airlines. The eTWLU, a critical element of the systems onboard networking, is a small sealed ARINC-763 compliant wireless transceiver that supports multiple high speed wireless protocols allowing the GateSync system to be deployed at airports throughout the world. The system enables airlines to wirelessly load and offload content and data while an aircraft is on the ground. The GateSync system will be on display in the Kontron booth #1222 and in the Thales booth #1401 at the APEX EXPO, September 12 - 15, 2011 in Seattle, Washington.

Geotest Expands User Programmable PXI FPGA Product Line
Geotest has announced the release of new, high performance PXI and PXI Express FPGA modules. The GX3700 and GX3700e FlexDIOs use the Altera Stratix III FPGA, which can support SerDes data rates to 1.25GHz/sec and I/O data rates to 700MHz. Kontron announced its strategic entry into ARM architecture, enabling a new breed of embedded scalable building blocks for application-ready platforms with low-power consumption. The first products planned for 2011 will be in the module and board form factors. Under development at Kontron is a new module format, optimized for usage with ARM System-On-Chip processor types. The modules will enable ARM processors, single, dual and quad core, to be used in most vertical market applications. Innovative organic solar cell architecture sets new performance level
Belgian research centre imec, together with Plextronics and Solvay, present this week at the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (PVSEC) in Hamburg an organic polymer-based single junction solar cell with 6.9% performance in an innovative inverted device stack. Combining imec's scalable inverted device architecture and Plextronics' polymers, new levels of cell efficiency were achieved. The polymer was also integrated into a module resulting in excellent module level efficiencies of 5% for an aperture area of 25cm².

Murata improves acoustic characteristics of world’s thinnest piezoelectric speaker
Murata has announced it has enhanced the audio characteristics of its ultra thin piezoelectric speaker. Measuring just 0.5 mm in thickness, the VSLBP2115E1100 series is believed to be the world's smallest piezoelectric speaker. By optimizing the product's structure and the use of new materials it has been possible to reduce distortion and increase sound pressure level without any change in the speaker's size. Distortion has been reduced by 50 % in the voice frequency region of 2 to 4 kHz. Sound pressure improvements have been made in the low frequency regions of 1 kHz and below.

Microchip - Utility-band Power-Line Soft-Modem development kit
Microchip announces the Power-Line Modem PICtail Plus Daughter Board Development Kit (AC164145) for the utility frequency band. The kit supports the development of products which communicate using the same wiring that provides power, allowing instant networks to be created at low system and deployment costs. The kit provides communication over power lines using a Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation scheme, with the on-board modem using the CELENEC A utility frequency baseband of 72 kHz, for communication at a rate of 6 kilobits per second (kbps). In addition, the modem hardware is compatible with the universal power-line, and can operate on 110V or 220V electrical systems. The soft modem is based on the scalable dsPIC33F Digital Signal Controller architecture and interfaces with Microchip's Explorer 16 Development Board. It is supported with royalty-free schematics, demo code and software in source-code format.

Texas Instruments introduced two new bipolar, 12-bit, 1-MSPS successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) for programmable logic control (PLC) and data acquisition. The 4-channel ADS8634 and 8-channel ADS8638 provide the widest temperature range available for demanding industrial measurement applications up to 125 degrees and are fully characterized over the extended industrial temperature range. They also allow an input range of ±12 V, an improvement of 20 percent over the competition, when used with an external reference.
