News Release from:
13 May 2010
Fischer Connectors worked with the leading manufacturer of heart-lung machines and according disposables, MAQUET, to help develop CARDIOHELP, the world' smallest and lightest (9.4 kg) hybrid pump/ oxygenator device. This award-winning portable system will enable a paradigm shift in the field of intensive care, interventional cardiology as well as intra- and interhospital transfer. Fischer's Connectors were selected for this revolutionary medical device because of their secure connections, durability and lightness.
CARDIOHELP provides an extracorporeal support for the patient's circulation and respiration. It guarantees adequate gas exchange to prevent heart and/or lung failure. When designing this system, MAQUET' engineering team required products that facilitated the creation of a heart-lung assist system that is so light in weight and small that it can be carried by one person and compact enough to be used in a helicopter or vehicle. They looked to suppliers, like Fischer Connectors, to help achieve the goal of simple and quick connecting of disposables.
Fischer gave MAQUET exactly what they needed: a compact, lightweight, high-quality and extreme durable interconnect solution from a single supplier, stated Gerhard Fiedler, Sales Manager, Fischer Connectors Germany. Today's healthcare market requires new technology designed for optimum portability of medical equipment. Our engineering team assisted with samples, CAD drawings and rapid prototype and product delivery to help MAQUET get to market quickly.
Fischer is a respected supplier to the healthcare industry. Its connectors were vital to the development of CARDIOHELP, where grams and centimetres make a difference in weight and size. For CARDIOHELP, Fischer created a unique solution to match the technical requirements of MAQUET. Fischer provided complete turnkey solutions - connectors, cabling and overmolding - all from one supplier.
