KEMET has today announced the introduction of its new T545 High Energy Polymer Tantalum Series of surface mount capacitors. These devices are well suited for applications including solid state drives, wireless cards and GPS systems.
“KEMET continues to focus on providing reliable solutions for our customers,” said Per Loof, KEMET’s Chief Executive Officer. “The T545 Series takes innovation to a new level by providing very high capacitance, low ESR, low profile, and all solid state construction in a surface mount package.”
“The T545 Series was developed to deliver the highest energy per cc of any tantalum surface mount device offered today,” stated Dr. Philip Lessner, KEMET’s Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Scientist. “This product is subjected to 100% thermal shock and voltage aging to insure long term reliability, while its low profile is designed to fit in the most demanding SSD applications.”
Typical markets include computer, industrial, lighting, medical, defence and aerospace, telecommunications, and transportation. These devices range in price from $1 to $5 and complement KEMET’s TSM and T520 Series.
The T545 Series is part of the KEMET Organic Capacitor product family. KO-CAPs are tantalum capacitors with a Ta anode and Ta2O5 dielectric. A conductive organic polymer replaces traditionally used MnO2 as the cathode plate of the capacitor. KO-CAPs may also be operated at steady state voltages at up to 90% of rated voltage for part types with rated voltages of ≤ 10 volts and up to 80% of rated voltage for part types > 10 volts. These products are also available with a tin lead leadframe finish, surge current testing options and standard or low ESR levels.
