04 May 2012

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today released a new power thick film resistor that is the industry's first resistor in the compact 57 mm by 60 mm package to offer a power rating of 1100 W at a heat sink temperature of + 25 °C. The LPS1100 offers high-temperature derating performance and a broad range of resistance values.

Vishay Intertechnology Releases Industry’s First Power Thick Film Resistor to Offer Power Rating of 1100 W in Compact 57 mm by 60 mm FootprintThe LPS1100 thick film resistor is non-inductive (< 0.1 µH) and provides a resistance range from 1 Ω to 1.3 kΩ. Designed for easy mounting to a heat sink, the device’s compact footprint, low 25 mm profile, and low weight of 79 grams save valuable space to help designers reduce the size of their end products.

With its high power capabilities and high dielectric strength to 12 kVRMS, the LPS1100 is intended for power supply, inverter, converter, HEV-EV battery management, and snubber, chopper, pre-charge, discharge, filtering, and crowbar resistor applications. Typical end products will include windmill turbines, X-ray and oncology tables, trains, and large UPS drives.

Thermal resistance for the LPS1100 resistor at rated power and + 25 °C is 0.039 °C/W junction-to-case. The device features a temperature coefficient of ± 150 ppm/°C, tolerances from ± 1 % to ± 10 %, and an operating temperature from − 55 °C to + 200 °C. The resistor is compliant to RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU.

Samples and production quantities of the LPS1100 are available now, with lead times of eight to 10 weeks for larger orders.
