Texas Instruments Incorporated today introduced the industry's most accurate difference amplifier for high common-mode voltage applications up to +275 V. With a best-in-class common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) of 100 dB, the INA149 increases overall measurement accuracy by 2x compared to the competition and is the first high-voltage difference amplifier with a specified minimum 90-dB CMRR performance in harsh, high-temperature environments up to 125 degrees C.
Isolated Power Factor Corrected Offline Regulator Needs No Opto
Linear Technology Corporation announces the LT3798, an isolated flyback controller with single stage active power factor correction (PFC). A power factor of greater than 0.97 is accomplished by actively modulating the input current, eliminating the need for an extra switching power stage and associated components. In addition, no opto-isolator or signal transformer is required for feedback since the output voltage is sensed from the primary-side flyback signal.
New 1 watt converters for low power applications
DENGROVE introduce RECOMs new 1 watt converters which are designed for low power applications. The new R1S/E-, RB/E- and RO/E-converter series with low rated power achieve excellent efficiency up to 84%. More importantly, they reach 70% efficiency even at 20% load. Low heat losses allow these converters to be used at the extended ambient temperature range of -40°C to +100°C without derating.
Diodes Incorporated Packages MOSFETs for Cooler Operation
Diodes Incorporated has announced the introduction of its first MOSFETs to be housed in the miniature DFN1212-3 package. With a junction to ambient thermal resistance (Rthj-a) of 130ºC/W, the package supports a power dissipation of up to 1W under continuous conditions, ensuring significantly cooler operation than that achievable with existing footprint-compatible SOT723 alternatives characterized by an Rthj-a performance of 280ºC/W.
CISSOID Releases HADES, a High Temperature and High Reliability Isolated Gate Driver for High Density Power Converters
CISSOID launched HADES, the first isolated gate driver solution designed to drive high temperature power transistors, specifically (but not exclusively) Silicon carbide (SiC) and Gallium nitride (GaN) fast-switching devices. With HADES, system engineers can develop power converters that are 5 times smaller and lighter than before, with better efficiency. They will also get power converters able to operate in high temperature ambiance if required. 15V, 300mA Synchronous Buck Converters with Only 1.8µA Quiescent Current
Linear Technology announces the LTC3103 and the LTC3104, 15V, fixed frequency synchronous buck converters capable of delivering 300mA of continuous current to output voltages from 0.6V to 13.8V. The LTC3103 consumes just 1.8µA of quiescent current, while the LTC3104 (which offers a 10mA programmable LDO output) requires only 2.6µA of quiescent current. These devices are ideal for a wide range of battery-powered applications including industrial control power, remote sensor networks, low power wireless systems and energy harvesting applications. Both devices operate from an input voltage range of 2.5V to 15V facilitating operation from a wide range of input sources, including single- or multi-cell batteries, supercapacitors and system rails.
TI introduces power management IC for 32-Bit C2000 real-time control MCUs
Texas Instruments Incorporated has introduced a complete power management solution for TI's C2000 real-time control, 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) and other DSP and FPGA processors. The TPS75005 highly integrated power circuit comes in a thermally enhanced 5-mm x 5-mm QFN package, combining two low-noise, 500-mA low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs) and three supply voltage supervisors to provide +/-5 percent power-rail accuracy for TI's F2833x, F2823x, F281x, F2801x and F280x microcontroller series.
IR’s IRS2500 µPFC Control IC Reduces Noise Sensitivity for Cost- Sensitive Electronic Ballast and SMPS Applications
International Rectifier has introduced the IRS2500S µPFC power factor correction (PFC) control IC for switch mode power supply (SMPS), LED drivers, fluorescent and HID electronic ballast applications. The IRS2500S µPFC controller can be configured to operate in critical conduction boost PFC or flyback configuration. The new device also features a total harmonic distortion (THD) optimization circuit to reduce line current harmonics. Devices has introduced a pair of LDOs (low dropout regulators) with low noise, high power supply rejection, and excellent line and load transient response. The ADP7102 and ADP7104 LDOs achieve a 15 μVrms fixed-voltage noise figure, power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 60 dB at 10 kHz in 3-V operation, and feature reverse current protection to guard against shorts and sudden load discharges. The new LDOs are designed to maximise the load performance and yield higher data conversion accuracy and resolution in high-frequency communications infrastructure, medical imaging, and industrial and instrumentation applications.

Dual Output Synchronous Step-Down Controller Produces 1.5VOUT From Up To 24VIN at 2MHz
Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC3838, a high frequency controlled on-time dual output synchronous step-down DC/DC controller with differential output voltage sensing and clock synchronization. The controlled on-time, valley current-mode architecture enables a very fast transient response by increasing its operating frequency during a transient event, enabling the LTC3838 to recover from a large load step in only a few clock cycles. The operating frequency is selectable from 200kHz to 2MHz or can be synchronized to an external clock. A low 30ns minimum on-time allows for a high step-down ratio power supply at very high operating frequencies.
Dual 4A PowerPath Ideal Diodes Feature Ultralow 15mV Forward Voltage
Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC4415, a monolithic two-channel 4A PowerPath ideal diode device designed to reduce heat, voltage drop and board space while preserving battery run time in power switchover circuits. The LTC4415 is ideal for applications requiring an ideal Diode-ORing function for load sharing or automatic switchover between two input power sources. The LTC4415's ultralow 15mV forward voltage is significantly lower than a Schottky diode, thereby extending battery run time and operating voltage range while ensuring no oscillations during supply switchover. Low 50mOhm on-resistance reduces power loss and heat.
Fairchild FAN6756 PWM controller - ultra-low standby power
Fairchild Semiconductor has developed the FAN6756 PWM controller featuring mWSaver™ technology, which enables the reduction of standby power loss in the external circuit without using additional support ICs. The single-chip FAN6756 is a highly integrated green-mode PWM controller, capable of significantly reducing standby losses in SMPS designs, eliminating up to 15 external components. When compared to competitive IC solutions available today, the device achieves greater power savings and can save the designer up to $.30 in bill of material (BOM) costs.
Op Amp Drives SAR ADCs to True Zero on a Single 5V Supply
Linear Technology has introduced the LTC6360, a very low noise, high speed amplifier that can drive to 0V while maintaining high linearity on a single +5V supply. The LTC6360's integrated ultralow noise charge pump provides an internal negative rail, eliminating the need for a negative supply. Compared to typical rail-to-rail output single-supply amplifiers that can only swing to within a few hundred millivolts of ground, the LTC6360 provides improved linearity and dynamic range in applications that benefit from a true zero output swing.
High Efficiency ±6A Switching Regulator for DDR Termination Complies with DDR/DDR2/DDR3 Standards
Linear Technology has introduced the LTC3617, a high efficiency, monolithic synchronous step-down switching regulator, capable of generating a bus termination voltage for DDR/DDR2/DDR3 and future standard memory applications requiring sourcing and sinking of current. An internal resistor divider sets the VTT DDR termination supply and VTTR reference voltages equal to half the voltage applied to the input, with output current capability of ±6A (sinking/sourcing) at VTT and ±10mA at VTTR.

Texas Instruments introduces highly efficient boost charger IC for nano power energy harvesting
Texas Instruments has introduced its next generation of power management integrated circuits for energy harvesting. The highly efficient boost charger for nano (ultra low) power energy harvesting manages the microwatts to milliwatts of power generated from a number of sources, such as solar, thermoelectric, electromagnetic and vibration, and stores the extracted energy in various storage elements, including Li-ion batteries and super capacitors. The bq25504 also includes circuitry to protect the energy storage element from over voltage and under voltage conditions and to kick-start the system when the battery is deeply discharged.
Vishay Siliconix MICRO FOOT N-Channel and P-Channel Power MOSFETs are Industry's First to Feature On-Resistance Ratings Down to 1.2 V in Industry's Smallest Chipscale Package
Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the industry's first p-channel power MOSFET in the industry's smallest 0.8 mm by 0.8 mm chipscale package, in addition to the first n- and p-channel devices to offer on-resistance ratings down to 1.2 V in this package size. The 8 V n-channel Si8802DB and p-channel Si8805EDB TrenchFET power MOSFETs in the MICRO FOOT package occupy up to 36 % less board space than the next smallest chipscale devices, yet offer comparable — and even lower — on resistance.
NXP Introduces LDO with Best-in-Class Performance in a Small Wafer-Level Chip-Scale Package
NXP Semiconductors N.V. has announced the availability of the LD6806CX4 ultra low-dropout voltage regulator (LDO), featuring ultra-low dropout of only 60 mV at a 200-mA current rating. With an ultra-small 0.76 x 0.76 x 0.47mm wafer-level chip-scale package (WLCSP), the LD6806CX4 uses minimal board space, making it ideal for extremely space-constrained designs in mobile handsets, where battery life is also a critical success factor. Batteries in mobile phones discharge almost linearly over time, but the LDO compensates for this effect by providing a constant regulated output voltage. For example, if the battery voltage of a smartphone goes down to 3.0 V, due to the low dropout voltage the LD6806CX4 is still able to support an SD card application with a mandatory and stable supply voltage of 2.9 V. The LD6806CX4 is part of NXP's new LD6806 family of LDOs, which are available immediately from major distributors.
Intersil's ISL55211 Wideband Differential Amplifier Features Industry's Lowest Distortion
Intersil Corporation has introduced the ISL55211, a low noise, wideband differential amplifier that requires only a single 3.3V power supply and consumes only 35mA quiescent current (155mW). The ISL55211 is an ultra-low distortion, high-speed differential amplifier that can drive high performance ADCs, such as the recently introduced 14-bit ISLA214P50, with minimal degradation to the ADC's baseline performance. It provides three fixed gain settings of 2x, 4x, and 5x, and maintains a constant 1.4GHz bandwidth and low output noise of <10nV/√Hz for all gain settings.
150mA Supercapacitor Charger with PowerPath Control & Auto Cell Balancing in 9mm²
Linear Technology has introduced the LTC3226, an inductorless supercapacitor charger with backup PowerPath controller for Li-ion or other low-voltage system rails in applications that require short term backup power. The device employs a low-noise dual mode (1x/2x) charge-pump architecture with constant input current to charge two supercapacitors in series from a 2.5V to 5.5V input supply to a programmable capacitor charge voltage between 2.5V and 5.3V. Charge current is resistor-programmable up to 150mA. The device's automatic cell balancing and voltage clamping features maintain equal voltages on both cells without requiring balancing resistors. This protects each supercapacitor from overvoltage damage that could otherwise be caused by mismatches in cell capacitance or leakage, while minimizing current drain on the capacitors.

Micrel Inc. today launched a new family of pre-bias safe, fully integrated buck regulators targeting the 5V and 3.3V rails. The MIC22705 can supply a maximum output load current of 7A, while the MIC22405 and MIC22205 can handle up to 4A and 2A respectively. Rohm presents its new high voltage resistance, high efficiency DC/DC Converter module BP5277 family which eliminates the need of external components and thermal design. Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC2991, an 8-channel I²C temperature, voltage and current monitor for 3V and 5V systems. The LTC2991 is a highly integrated monitoring solution that incorporates a 14-bit ADC, 10ppm/°C voltage reference and I²C digital interface to provide submillivolt voltage resolution and 1% current measurement, as well as ±0.7°C remote accuracy and ±1°C internal accuracy, when making temperature measurements. Eight single-ended voltage inputs can be configured to measure any combination of internal temperature, remote temperature, remote voltage and internal VCC for single or repeated measurements. The LTC2991 provides a highly configurable, yet simple solution for simultaneously monitoring combinations of temperature, voltage and current without compromising accuracy on any parameter.
