Linear Technology has announced the LT3663, a 1.2A, 1.5MHz monolithic current mode step-down switching regulator with a programmable output current limit. Its wide operating input voltage of 7.5V to 36V makes the LT3663 ideal for a variety of input sources, including unregulated 12V wall adapters, 24V industrial supplies, Fire Wire, as well as automotive applications. Onboard input overvoltage lockout protects the device through input transients as high as 60V, such as those commonly found in automotive applications.

Linear Technology has announced the high reliability, MP-grade version of the LTC3412A. The LTC3412A is a high efficiency, 4MHz synchronous buck regulator that uses a constant frequency, current mode architecture. It can deliver up to 3A of continuous output current at voltages as low as 0.8V from a thermally enhanced TSSOP-16 package. It operates from an input voltage range of 2.25V to 5.5V, making it ideal for both single-cell Li-Ion, or NiMH applications, as well as more general purpose fixed rail systems.

Vishay introduces a new series of enhanced high-current-density PowerBridge rectifiers with current ratings of 30 A to 45 A, maximum peak reverse voltage ratings of 600 V to 1000 V, and a high case dielectric strength of 1500 V. The series' 45-A devices are the industry's first single in-line bridge rectifiers in the PowerBridge package, which features a body size of 30 mm by 20 mm with a 3.8-mm profile.
Intersil's 2A and 3A linear regulators provide industry's fastest transient response, lowest dropout and highest total DC accuracy
Intersil has introduced the ISL80102 and ISL80103, a pair of low voltage, high current, low dropout linear regulators (LDOs), specified at 2A and 3A output current respectively. While most LDOs in the market are based on decades old technology, these parts utilize state-of-the-art BiCMOS technology to achieve new levels of performance. The LDOs provide the industry's fastest transient response, which ensures that the output voltage is properly regulated under varying load current changes. They also feature very low dropout, 120mV dropout at 3A and 81mV dropout at 2A.
Flyback Controller Operates at 150°C Junction Temperature
Linear Technology has announced the H-grade version of the LTC3803-3, a current mode flyback DC/DC controller in a tiny 6-pin ThinSOT™ package. This H-grade device is guaranteed up to +150°C operating junction temperature and is ideal for automotive and industrial applications subjected to high ambient temperatures. The LTC3803H-3 can be powered from an input voltage ranging from 9V to 75V through a series resistor clamped with the device's internal shunt regulator. The controller is well suited for 4:1 input voltage range isolated applications commonly found in 12V and 42V automotive requirements.

Industry’s Smallest Dual Buck Regulator Reduces Component Count and Board Space in Portable Systems
Analog Devices, Inc. today introduced the industry's smallest dual buck (step-down) regulator for space-constrained portable electronic systems. At just 2 mm × 2 mm × 0.6 mm, the dual 600-mA (milliamp) ADP5022 high performance step-down converter is half the size of competing devices yet includes an additional 150-mA on-chip LDO (low dropout regulator), a convenient feature for powering auxiliary rails. The high level of integration and small package size enables a cost-effective, ultra-small, power management unit for portable instruments, smart energy meters, smart phones and other power-sensitive equipment that requires thin packages. The combination of small size, low-noise architecture and high switching frequency also make the ADP5022 ideal for powering sensitive analog circuits like high-resolution ADCs (analog-to-digital converters).

Linear Technology announces the LT3760, an 8-channel LED driver, utilizing a step-up DC/DC controller capable of driving up to a 45V string of 100mA LEDs per channel. Its internal 60V, 1MHz DC/DC boost mode controller is designed to operate as a constant current LED driver for up to 80 white LEDs. From a 12V input, the LT3760 can drive 8 channels, each with up to ten 100mA white LEDs in series while delivering efficiencies exceeding 92%. Its multichannel capability makes it ideal for medium and large-sized TFT-LCD backlighting applications. Its input voltage range of 6V to 40V makes it ideal for automotive, avionic, HDTV and industrial display applications.

Battery Stack Fault Monitor Provides Independent Supervision of High Voltage Li-Ion Strings
Linear Technology announces the LTC6801, a high voltage battery stack fault monitor that operates without a microprocessor, and without the need for optocouplers or isolators. An LTC6801 can monitor up to 12 series-connected battery cells for overvoltage and undervoltage conditions. Multiple LTC6801 devices can be daisy chained, providing a method to monitor each individual cell in very long battery strings. When connected in a daisy-chain, a single differential clock output confirms that all cells in the stack are within the defined operating range.

Linear Technology Corporation announces the LT3686, a 1.2A, 37VIN step-down switching regulator. The LT3686 operates within a VIN range of 3.6V to 37V with overvoltage lockout, protecting the regulator and load from transients as high as 55V, making it ideal for load dump and cold-crank conditions commonly found in automotive applications as well as 24V industrial supplies. Its internal 1.85A switch can deliver up to 1.2A of continuous output current at voltages as low as 0.8V. Its low minimum on-time enables it to offer high switching frequencies even with high step-down ratios. For example, with an input as high as 16V, it can deliver a 3.3V output using a 2MHz switching frequency.

Ultra Flat Power Inductors from KOA
KOA expands its range of ultra flat power inductors. The PL inductor series with ferrite core features a maximum height of 0.5 mm. The new size 1008 inch (2520 metric) covers the inductor values from 0.33 µH up to 4.7 µH. Due to the very low ohmic DC resistance down to 0.06 Ω, the allowed current goes up to 1100 mA, despite its very small dimensions.

Linear Technology has announced the LTC3108, a highly integrated step-up DC/DC converter designed to start-up and run from extremely low input voltage sources such as thermoelectric generators (TEGs), thermopiles and small solar cells. Its self-resonant topology steps up from input voltages as low as 20mV. Small temperature differences can be harvested and used to generate system power instead of traditional battery power. Energy harvesters are designed for applications requiring very low average power, but require periodic pulses of higher load current. For example, in many wireless sensor applications the circuitry is only powered to take measurements and transmit data periodically at low duty cycle.

LT3582 - Boost & Inverting DC/DC Converter for Active Matrix OLED & CCD Bias
Linear Technology has announced the LT3582, LT3582-5 and LT3582-12 dual channel DC/DC converters which deliver both positive and negative outputs required in many biasing applications such as active matrix OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays as well as CCD (charge coupled device) applications. The LT3582/-5/-12 offer an I2C interface that can dynamically program output voltages, power sequencing and output voltage ramps as the application requires. Alternatively, these parameters can be set in manufacturing and made permanent via the built in non-volatile OTP (one time programmable) memory. The LT3582's positive output voltage can be set between 3.2V and 12.775 in 25mV steps, whereas the negative output can be set between -1.2V and -13.95V in 50mV steps. The LT3582-5 and LT3582-12 are preconfigured with ±5V and ±12V outputs respectively, useful in many signal conditioning applications.
High Efficiency Quad PSE Controller Addresses IEEE 802.3at PoE+ Standard
Linear Technology has introduced the LTC4266, a 4-port Power over Ethernet (PoE) controller for Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) required to provide IEEE 802.3at (25.5W) or proprietary higher power levels. Next-generation PoE applications call for more power to support demanding features, while increasing power efficiency in an effort to be more green and reduce costs. The LTC4266 provides up to 100W over 4-pair Ethernet cabling and is fully compliant with the new IEEE 802.3at PoE+ standard and backward compatible with the prior IEEE 802.3af PoE standard. To help conserve power, the LTC4266 delivers the lowest-in-industry heat dissipation by using low RDS(ON) MOSFETs and 0.25Ohm sense resistors, eliminating the need for expensive heat sinks and providing a more robust PSE solution.
IGBT modules have internal inductance of just 15nH
SEMIKRON has introduced a low-inductance 1200V SEMITRANS IGBT module series for use in AC/DC converters in the 20 – 300kW power range. These modules are available with Fuji fifth-generation V-IGBT chips as an alternative to IGBT4 chips. The very low 15nH module inductance offers two advantages: 50V higher DC link voltage than in competitor modules, thanks to the lower switching overvoltages; plus faster and softer IGBT switching producing lower switching losses, boosting overall efficiency.

For higher current applications Diodes Incorporated has added two new devices to its AP21XX power switch product line. The single channel AP2101 and AP2111 provide a continuous output current capability up to 2A and have been optimized for use in self-powered and bus-powered USB and other 3-5V hot-swap applications.
MB39A145 - Fujitsu Announces Fast Transient Response DC/DC Converter IC
Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe today announced a new two-channel DC/DC converter IC with fast transient response times, for use in digital products, such as LCD TVs, and digital video recorders. The MB39A145 utilises a 'bottom detection comparator method', and includes new comparator circuits that provide changes in voltage for changes in current to realise a more stable, low ripple output voltage. This improved stability subsequently reduces the number of external components that are needed, such as condensers, thus reducing space. The IC also includes Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) that operates in currents below 100mA, enabling the IC to provide high efficiency in all current ranges and reduce the power consumption of end equipment in stand-by mode.
Small Footprint 4V-38V Input Voltage Range Synchronous Step-Down DC/DC Controller
Linear Technology has announced the LTC3854, a tiny 2mm x 3mm DFN-12 packaged, wide input voltage range synchronous step-down switching DC/DC controller that drives all N-channel power MOSFET stages. The 4V to 38V input range addresses a wide variety of applications, including most intermediate bus voltages and battery chemistries. The strong on-board MOSFET gate drivers enable high power external MOSFETs to produce output currents up to 20A with output voltages ranging from 0.8V to 5.5V. This makes the LTC3854 ideal for point-of-load regulation requirements in datacom, telecom, industrial, automotive, medical and multi-function printer applications.
