Vishay Siliconix ThunderFET Power MOSFET is Industry's First 80-V MOSFET With On-Resistance Specified at 4.5-V Gate Drive
Vishay unveiled the first TrenchFET power MOSFET built on a new low-on-resistance technology optimized for higher-voltage devices. The new ThunderFET SiR880DP is the first 80-V power MOSFET with an on-resistance rating at a 4.5-V gate drive. Packaged in the thermally enhanced PowerPAK® SO-8, the new 80 V SiR880DP offers ultra-low on-resistances of 8.5 mΩ at 4.5 V, 6.7 mΩ at 7.5 V, and 5.9 mΩ at 10 V. Typical on-resistance times gate charge, a key figure of merit (FOM, expressed in nC-mΩ) for MOSFETs in dc-to-dc converter applications, is 161 at 4.5 V.
37V, 1.2A (IOUT), 2.5MHz Step-Down DC/DC Converter with 150°C Maximum Junction Temperature
Linear Technology announces the H-Grade version of the LT3686. The LT3686H is a 1.2A, 37VIN step-down switching regulator. The LT3686H operates within a VIN range of 3.6V to 37V with overvoltage lockout, protecting the regulator and load from transients as high as 55V, making it ideal for load dump and cold-crank conditions commonly found in automotive applications as well as 24V industrial supplies. Its internal 1.85A switch can deliver up to 1.2A of continuous output current at voltages as low as 0.8V. The LT3686H's switching frequency is user programmable from 300kHz to 2.5MHz, enabling designers to maximize efficiency while avoiding critical noise-sensitive frequency bands. Its low minimum on-time enables it to provide high switching frequencies even with high step-down ratios. For example, with an input as high as 16V, it can deliver a 3.3V output using a 2MHz switching frequency. The LT3050 features a wide 2V to 45V input voltage range, delivering adjustable output voltages from 0.6V to 44.5V. A single capacitor at the REF/BYP pin provides programmable low noise operation--only 30µVRMS across a wide bandwidth of 10Hz to 100kHz--and reference soft start functionality, preventing output voltage overshoot at turn-on. Output voltage tolerance is highly accurate at ±2% over line, load and temperature.

Auto-Polarity, Millivolt Voltage Step-Up Converter & Power Manager
Linear Technology announces the LTC3109, a highly integrated step-up DC/DC converter and power management IC designed to start up and run from millivolt input voltage sources such as thermoelectric generators (TEGs) and thermopiles. The device's groundbreaking and proprietary auto-polarity topology allows it to generate usable power from input voltages as low as ±30mV, enabling temperature differences as low as ±1°C to be harvested in lieu of traditional battery power. This makes it ideal for energy harvesting applications in which the input voltage polarity is unknown or is subject to reversal. Energy harvesters are well suited for applications requiring low average power, even with periodic pulses of higher load current. For example, in many wireless sensor applications the circuitry is only powered to take measurements and transmit data periodically with a low duty cycle.

Linear Technology announces the LT3956, an 80V high-side current sense DC/DC converter designed to operate as a constant-current and constant-voltage regulator. It is ideal for driving high current LEDs as well as charging batteries and supercaps. Its 4.5V to 80V input voltage range makes it ideal for a wide variety of applications, including automotive, industrial and architectural lighting. The LT3956 uses an internal N-channel MOSFET and can drive up to eighteen 350mA white LEDs from a nominal 12V input, delivering in excess of 25 Watts.
Toshiba announces new 60V-2.5A n-channel MOSFET for battery voltage boosting
Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has introduced a 60 Volt semi-power MOSFET within its line-up of small signal MOSFET (S-MOS) devices. The new SSM3K318T is ideally suited for battery voltage boosting in white light emitting diode (LED) backlight applications. The common load switching application in portable devices can be operated from the battery voltage with low voltage MOSFETs of 20V maximum rating. However for LED backlighting applications with series connection of white LEDs, voltages need to be boosted to higher levels leading to maximum drain-source voltage requirements of 60V. With a maximum drain current rating of 2.5A the small size Toshiba SSM3K318T n-channel power MOSFET is well suited to boost a battery voltage to the level needed to turn on LED arrays, with both high speed switching and high efficiency.
High Power Multiphase Step-Down DC/DC Controller Features Differential Remote Sensing, Active Voltage Positioning & Stage Shedding Technology
Linear Technology introduced the LTC3856, a two-phase single output high efficiency (up to 95%) synchronous step-down DC/DC controller with PolyPhase® operation, differential output voltage sensing and integrated phased-lock loop (PLL) synchronization. Up to 12 phases can be paralleled and clocked out of phase to minimize input and output filtering requirements for high current applications (up to 300A). The differential amplifier provides remote output voltage sensing of both the positive and negative terminals, enabling high accuracy regulation independent of IR losses in trace runs, vias and interconnects. Applications include high current ASIC and FPGA supplies, power distribution buses, high power audio amplifiers and network servers.
