1V to 16V hot-swap IC with precision current-sense output
Maxim introduced the MAX5977, a hot-swap controller for 1V to 16V backplanes. This device features an integrated current-sense amplifier that provides a 1% accurate current output over a 10mV to 50mV input voltage range. This allows system designers to precisely monitor/measure load current in high-availability systems. A calibration mode allows the current-sense amplifier to be fine-tuned for production testing of the design. The MAX5977 is well suited for networking, base station, storage, and computer server line cards requiring high reliability and precision current monitoring.

500-mA LDOs Double the Power Rejection of Competing Devices to Improve Portable and Battery-powered Equipment Performance
Analog Devices introduced two low-quiescent-current LDOs (low-dropout linear regulators) that deliver outstanding supply-rejection performance to help battery-operated portable equipment run longer and more efficiently. The new ADP124 and ADP125 LDOs have excellent PSRR (power-supply-rejection ratio) performance of 60 dB at 100 kHz, which is twice that of the nearest competing LDOs, and achieve low noise of 35 µVrms (micro-volts per root mean squared) at 1.8 V output. Operating from an input voltage between 2.3 V and 5.5 V and providing up to 500 mA of output current down to a 0.8 V output, the new LDOs also feature a low quiescent current of 210 μA and a 130 mV dropout voltage at a 500 mA load, which further improves portable equipment operating efficiency over a wide input-voltage range.

400mA Synchronous Step-Up DC/DC Converter with Maximum Power Point Control & 250mV Start Up for Energy Harvesting Applications
Linear Technology has announced the LTC3105, a high performance, synchronous boost converter that incorporates maximum power point control (MPPC) and starts up with inputs as low as 250mV. The LTC3105 operates over an extremely wide input range of 0.2V to 5V, making it ideal for harvesting energy from high impedance alternative power sources, including photovoltaic cells, thermoelectric generators (TEGs) and fuel cells. The LTC3105's internal 400mA synchronous switches maximize efficiency while its Burst Mode operation offers quiescent current of only 22uA, further optimizing converter efficiency overall operating conditions. A user-programmable MPPC set point maximizes the energy that can be extracted from any power source without collapsing its internal voltage.
Rectifiers from Diodes Incorporated increase efficiency and reduce form factor
Diodes has expanded its portfolio of patented Super Barrier Rectifiers (SBR) with the introduction of 12A and 15A rated devices in the compact PowerDI5 package. Renesas introduced today 32 new N-channel power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) with voltage tolerances of 40 and 55 volts (V). The new power MOSFETs include the NP75N04YUK device, featuring a compact HSON package with one-half the mounting area of the existing TO-252 package and the ability to handle current flows of up to 75 amperes (A).

Maxim introduced the MAX14566E, a USB charger identification solution that supports the charging of portable devices from notebook computers, even when the computer is in sleep or hibernate mode. This switch supports the USB Battery Charging Specification, Revision 1.1, as well as the CCSA YD/T 1591-2006 standard for the Chinese market. The compact (2mm x 2mm) MAX14566E saves board space and reduces software overhead as compared to discrete implementations.

The ZXGD3005E6 10 Amp gate driver from Diodes Incorporated has been designed to ensure ultra fast switching of power MOSFET and IGBT loads in power supply, solar inverter and motor drive circuits. Synchronous Boost Controller with up to 98% Efficiency Eliminates Heat Sink
Linear Technology has announced the LTC3786, a synchronous step-up DC/DC controller that replaces the boost diode with a high efficiency N-channel MOSFET. This eliminates the heat sink normally required in medium to high power boost converters. In applications where the input voltage may exceed the regulated output voltage, the LTC3786 is able to keep the synchronous MOSFET on continuously so that the output voltage follows the input voltage with minimal power loss. The LTC3786's low 55µA quiescent current extends the run time in battery-powered applications when in standby mode. This controller can produce a 24V at 5A output from a 12V input with up to 98% efficiency, making it ideal for automotive, industrial, and medical applications where a step-up DC/DC converter must have low heat dissipation in a small solution size.

Analog Devices announced today the availability of the ADP1850 synchronous DC-to-DC switching controller that is easily configurable as dual output or interleaved two-phase controller for a wide range of high-current, high-efficiency applications. The ADP1850 offers more flexibility than other DC-to-DC controllers by providing a wider input voltage range of 2.75 V to 20 V, as well as easy configuration for dual-output (up to 2 x 25 A) or single interleaved-output (up to 50 A) systems. Linear Technology has announced the LT3748H, a high input voltage isolated flyback DC/DC controller with guaranteed operation for junction temperatures as high as 150°C. This device significantly simplifies the design of an isolated DC/DC converter since there is no requirement for an opto-isolator, third winding or signal transformer for feedback, as the output voltage is sensed from the primary-side flyback signal. The LT3748 operates over a 5V to 100V input voltage range and drives an external N-channel power MOSFET, making it well suited for a wide variety of automotive, industrial, telecom and datacom applications.

Avago announced two new gain block solutions that expand its high-performance power amplifier family targeting cellular infrastructure applications. The new MGA-31589 and MGA-31689 0.5-watt gain blocks feature high linearity, high gain, superior gain flatness and low power dissipation. Analog Devices (ADI) is expanding its portfolio of digital isolation products with the industry's smallest isolated dc-to-dc converter. Offering a 5-kV rms isolation rating in a 10-mm × 10-mm package, the ADuM6000 is a 0.5 watt device that integrates ADI's proprietary iCoupler digital isolation technology and isoPower dc-to-dc converter. The new digital isolator allows designers to free up valuable circuit-board real estate while eliminating the time-consuming step of securing medical or other safety approvals (such as IEC-60601-1), all at a fraction of the cost of alternative devices, including optocouplers. Single Inductor High Efficiency Synchronous Buck-Boost DC/DC Controller
Linear Technology announced the LTC3789, a very high efficiency (up to 98%) synchronous buck-boost DC/DC controller that operates from input voltages above, below or equal to the regulated output voltage. High power circuits that step-up and-down typically rely on transformers or two DC/DC converters, one for step-up (boost) and the other for step-down (buck) conversion. The LTC3789 operates using a single inductor with 4-switch synchronous rectification and can deliver output power up to 150W with a single device. Even higher output power can be achieved when multiple circuits are paralleled.
