Power Integrations announced the immediate availability of the Qspeed family of advanced diodes. Qspeed diodes use a unique silicon-based process to combine an extremely low reverse recovery charge (QRR) with a very soft recovery waveform. Together, these features help designers optimize the efficiency and EMI performance of their power conversion circuits. Qspeed diodes are ideal for continuous conduction mode (CCM) boost power factor correction (PFC) circuits, and as output diodes for hard-switching applications. In PFC circuits, Qspeed diodes can provide an overall switching performance that is comparable to silicon-carbide (SiC) diodes at much lower cost.

Linear Technology announces the LT3690, a 36V input capable, synchronous step-down switching regulator which can deliver up to 4A of continuous output current at efficiencies as high as 93%. The LT3690 operates within a VIN range of 3.9V to 36V, and offers transient protection to 60V, making it well suited for load dump and cold-crank conditions found in automotive applications. The LT3690's Burst Mode® operation requires only 70uA of quiescent current, ideal for applications such as automotive or telecom systems, which demand always-on operation and optimum battery life. Switching frequency is user-programmable from 170kHz to 1.5MHz, enabling the designer to optimize efficiency while avoiding critical noise-sensitive frequency bands. The combination of its 4mm x 6mm QFN-26 package and high switching frequency keeps external inductors and capacitors small, providing a compact, thermally efficient footprint.
Ultra-compact optical-coupled MOSFET with only 30 pA leakage current and 0.75 pF output capacitance
MSC now offers the new PS7901D-1A optical-coupled MOSFET from Renesas Electronics. Key features of this device are an output capacitance of only 0.75 pF and a low leakage current of just 30 pA. The PS7901D-1A comes in an ultra-compact 4-pin flat-lead package measuring only 2.9 mm x 2.3 mm.

Maxim introduced the MAX15053, a current-mode, synchronous DC-DC converter in a tiny 1.65mm x 1.65mm wafer-level package (WLP). This miniature step-down regulator integrates MOSFETs to simplify design, minimize EMI, and save board space while achieving conversion efficiency up to 96% at full load (2A). The MAX15053 operates from a fixed 1MHz switching frequency that allows for small external passive components and an all-ceramic-capacitor design, further minimizing total solution size. A peak-current-mode architecture ensures excellent load regulation while simplifying compensation. Offering both fixed-PWM and skip-mode operation, the MAX15053 is suitable for applications ranging from telecom, networking, and base-station equipment to portable devices such as notebooks.

Linear Technology announces the LT3083, a 3A LDO that can be paralleled for heat spreading and higher output current, and is adjustable with a single resistor. This regulator is based on the same innovative architecture as its 1.1A predecessor, the LT3080, which uses a current source reference for single resistor output voltage setting. With the SET pins tied together, sharing the current and spreading the heat is accomplished between multiple regulators using a small length of PC trace as ballast, enabling multi-amp linear regulation in all surface-mount systems without heat sinks.
MAX17435/535: Highly integrated, 850kHz/500kHz SMBus-programmable battery chargers
Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX17435/MAX17535, highly integrated SMBus(TM) battery chargers capable of operating at 850kHz and 500kHz, respectively. The SMBus interface enables programming of the charge settings without changing external components, thus maximizing design flexibility. Programmable settings include charge current, charge voltage, input current limit, relearn voltage, and digital IINP voltage readback. Equivalent competitive solutions require the use of external components to program charge settings. The MAX17435/MAX17535 are ideal for notebook computers, ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs), mobile internet devices (MIDs), and other battery-powered applications where space is critical.

Maxim MAX8982 - Single-chip PMICs for Icera's E400/E450 platform
Maxim introduced the MAX8982A/MAX8982X, power-management ICs (PMICs) for LTE/WCDMA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE data cards based on Icera's E400/E450 platform. These devices integrate four high-efficiency step-down converters and nine low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs) to power all RF and baseband circuitry. This integration completely eliminates external components, including the external converter normally required for GSM power amplifier (PA) modules. They thus reduce solution size by 60% and BOM cost by over $1.50, making them ideal for USB dongles (MAX8982A) and PC cards (MAX8982X).

Sub-Microamp Quiescent Current LDOs Extend Battery Life in Wireless Devices
Analog Devices introduced four low-dropout regulators (LDOs) that address the size, power dissipation and power-supply-rejection requirements of wireless mobile devices. The ADP160, ADP161, ADP162 and ADP163 ultra-low-quiescent-current LDOs extend the battery life of portable devices by drawing only 560 nA (typical) at no load and 42 μA of quiescent current (typical) at full load. These LDOs provide superior 70 dB PSRR (power-supply-rejection ratio) at 60 Hz, which is more than twice that of competing LDOs at full load current. The new ADP16x series LDOs are designed for applications such as power meter reader/data terminals, portable industrial, medical measurement devices and remotely located equipment operating from batteries or solar power.
Torex - 1A, 0.5v Ultra-low Dropout Voltage Regulator With Soft-start
The new XC6602 series from Torex is a high speed and highly accurate LDO which can supply up to 1A of output current while consuming only 110µA. With the help of a bias voltage that can be set between 2.5V and 6.0V, the XC6602 operates with input voltages from 0.5V to 3.0V and is readily available with fixed output voltages from 0.5V to 1.8V in 0.1V increments.

International Rectifier has introduced a family of automotive qualified planar MOSFETs for a variety of applications used in Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), hybrid and full electric vehicle platforms. The family of new devices utilizing IR's proven planar technology includes 55 V and 150 V standard gate drive N Channel MOSFETs, and -55 V and -100 V standard gate drive P channel MOSFETs suitable for high-side switch applications, requiring no additional charge pump for gate drive. The 30 V, 55 V and 100 V logic level gate drive N Channel MOSFETs simplify gate drive requirements and help reduce board space and component count. All of the new devices are optimized for low on-state resistance (Rds(on)).
1V to 16V hot-swap IC with precision current-sense output
Maxim introduced the MAX5977, a hot-swap controller for 1V to 16V backplanes. This device features an integrated current-sense amplifier that provides a 1% accurate current output over a 10mV to 50mV input voltage range. This allows system designers to precisely monitor/measure load current in high-availability systems. A calibration mode allows the current-sense amplifier to be fine-tuned for production testing of the design. The MAX5977 is well suited for networking, base station, storage, and computer server line cards requiring high reliability and precision current monitoring.

500-mA LDOs Double the Power Rejection of Competing Devices to Improve Portable and Battery-powered Equipment Performance
Analog Devices introduced two low-quiescent-current LDOs (low-dropout linear regulators) that deliver outstanding supply-rejection performance to help battery-operated portable equipment run longer and more efficiently. The new ADP124 and ADP125 LDOs have excellent PSRR (power-supply-rejection ratio) performance of 60 dB at 100 kHz, which is twice that of the nearest competing LDOs, and achieve low noise of 35 µVrms (micro-volts per root mean squared) at 1.8 V output. Operating from an input voltage between 2.3 V and 5.5 V and providing up to 500 mA of output current down to a 0.8 V output, the new LDOs also feature a low quiescent current of 210 μA and a 130 mV dropout voltage at a 500 mA load, which further improves portable equipment operating efficiency over a wide input-voltage range.

Linear Technology has announced the LTC3105, a high performance, synchronous boost converter that incorporates maximum power point control (MPPC) and starts up with inputs as low as 250mV. The LTC3105 operates over an extremely wide input range of 0.2V to 5V, making it ideal for harvesting energy from high impedance alternative power sources, including photovoltaic cells, thermoelectric generators (TEGs) and fuel cells. The LTC3105's internal 400mA synchronous switches maximize efficiency while its Burst Mode operation offers quiescent current of only 22uA, further optimizing converter efficiency overall operating conditions. A user-programmable MPPC set point maximizes the energy that can be extracted from any power source without collapsing its internal voltage.

Renesas introduced today 32 new N-channel power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) with voltage tolerances of 40 and 55 volts (V). The new power MOSFETs include the NP75N04YUK device, featuring a compact HSON package with one-half the mounting area of the existing TO-252 package and the ability to handle current flows of up to 75 amperes (A).
