Hamamatsu Back-Illuminated InGaAs Linear Image Sensors for Food Inspection
Hamamatsu Photonics introduce the new G11135 series of InGaAs linear image sensors, designed for foreign object inspection. These image sensors consist of an InGaAs photodiode array and CMOS chip containing a charge amplifier array, offset compensation circuit, shift register and a timing generator. The G11135 series are back-illuminated sensors and use indium bumps to connect the InGaAs array with the CMOS chip. This bonding method removes the need for gold wire bonds which significantly improves the reliability and performance of the image sensor.

MAZeT Introduces TIAM4 Multiple Color Sensors On-Chip
A new member of the multiple color sensors is the so-called integrated TIAM4 module. In addition to the spectral operating detector, it contains the entire sensor electronics on-chip. The photocurrents of the detector are converted into voltages and are available via S & H on a MUX on the output side as an analog voltage signal for digital conversion. The TIA-based amplifier is individually programmable in transimpedance over eight levels and is characterized by a very good linearity in the amplifier stages and by low noise.

Cypress Introduces Industry's Highest Throughput Pipelined Global Shutter CMOS Image Sensor
Cypress Semiconductor introduced a high-sensitivity, high-speed CMOS image sensor targeted for the high-end machine vision market. The new 25-megapixel VITA 25K sensor offers the market's highest throughput for a device with a pipelined and triggered global shutter. The sensor has 32 10-bit digital Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) outputs that enable transfer of image data over a standard industry protocol at low power and low noise. Each channel runs at a 620 Mbps, which results in a high frame rate of 53 frames-per-second (fps) at full resolution for undistorted images and fast readout. The VITA 25K is ideal for high-end machine vision applications, such as inspection machines; biometric inspection, such as next-generation palm print readers; and intelligent traffic systems.

Thumb-Sized MOEMS Mini-Spectrometer for Visible Light Spectrometry
Hamamatsu Photonics has introduced the C10988MA, an ultra-compact spectrometer built using MOEMS technology. The C10988MA is a thumb-sized device, measuring only 27.6 x 13 x 16.8 mm, developed for use in portable and hand-held devices, where a standard mini-spectrometer would be too large and consume too much power. Not only small, but the C10988MA is also light, weighing only 9 grams.
Optek Develops Miniature Infrared Surface Mount Reflective Object Sensor
Providing design engineers with an economical device for non-contact sensing applications, TT electronics OPTEK Technology has developed a new reflective object sensor in a miniature surface mount package. Designated the OPB733TR device, the infrared sensor uses a lensed IR LED and phototransistor elements to collimate the light beam, giving the device an optimizing detection range from 0.4 (10mm) to 1.0 (25.4mm). In addition, the minimum phototransistor output current of 100mA eliminates the need for external amplification of the output signal, thus simplifying the drive circuitry.
