Avago Technologies today announced a new miniature auto focus light emitting diode (LED) for use in ultra-slim digital still camera designs. Avago's ASMT-FJ60, which is an enhancement to its ASMT-FJ30 auto focus LED series, is ideal for use as an auxiliary auto focus flash in camera applications that require long distance illumination and a narrow radiation pattern. With a footprint that can fit on the head of a pencil eraser, the ASMT-FJ60 offers superior brightness and is one the thinnest auto focus LEDs in the industry. Additionally, this new auto focus LED will enable designers to further reduce the overall thickness and size of digital still cameras.
Everlight's SL-Dolphin LED fixtures replace traditional street lights in Boston LED Trial
Everlight Electronics Co. Ltd announced today that the City of Boston, MA has installed 20 of the company's SL-Dolphin fixtures for their first LED cobra-head replacement project. These lights are installed in a municipal parking lot in the city's Jamaica Plain district, a classic streetcar suburb that has evolved into one of Boston's most diverse and dynamic neighborhoods. Boston will be monitoring the energy savings achieved using Everlight's 128 Watt Cobra LED fixtures instead of the previously installed fixtures using 250W high pressure sodium lights. In addition to saving >60% of the energy costs, LED technology reduces light pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and re-lamping costs with a LED lifetime of more than 50,000 hours.

Cree Raises Performance Levels for XLamp XP LEDs
Cree, Inc announces the commercial availability of higher-flux bins for warm- and cool-white XLamp XP-E LEDs and higher maximum forward currents for both XLamp XP-E and XP-G LEDs. XLamp XP-E cool white LEDs are now available in the R3 bin, 122-130 lumens at 350 mA, delivering up to 116 lumens per watt. Warm-white (3000 K) XP-E LEDs are available in the Q3 bin, 94-100 lumens at 350 mA.
