National Semiconductor’s New Video Timing Reference Design
National Semiconductor has introduced a new video clock reference design, now available as a module for the Xilinx ML571 serial digital video development board. National's module improves the jitter performance of the ML571 board's SERDES-optimized Virtex®-5 LXT field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and enables popular FPGA-based video solutions to easily meet the stringent Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) 424M jitter specifications. The reference design module simplifies the development of video cameras, digital recorders and a wide range of video editing and post-production equipment.
Compact Dual Channel Computer Cards
Inertial Aerosystems have introduced a new range of low cost dual channel PC104 compliant synchro/ resolver output cards. The PC104-DS series are manufactured by U.S. based Computer Conversions and are designed to provide precision simulated A.C. synchro and resolver formatted signals for use in navigation and positioning systems. It can also be used with test sets for both industrial and COTS military type applications or combined with synchro amplifiers for Torque Receiver applications.
Microchip Technology Offers Capacitive Touch Demo Board
Microchip has announced the PICDEM Touch Sense 2 Demo Board for capacitive touch-sensing applications. The easy-to-use board comes with the royalty-free mTouch Sensing Solution Software Development Kit (SDK) and is populated with a 16-bit PIC24FJ256GB110 microcontroller (MCU), which features an integrated Charge Time Measurement Unit (CTMU) peripheral for fast capacitive touch sensing. This is also the world's first 16-bit MCU family with USB On-The-Go (OTG).
Analog Devices Claims World's Smallest HDMI Transmitter
Analog Devices has introduced the ADV7521NK, what it says is the industry's smallest, low-power HDMI v 1.3 (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) transmitter that enables video delivery to HD televisions from portable multimedia devices, including digital still and DSLR cameras, camcorders, portable media players and cell phones.
Renesas Technology PLC network layer software to add wireless connectivity to automatic meter reading applications
Renesas Technology Europe today announced that it will shortly release an updated version of its power line communications-based (PLC) Renesas Ubiquitous Network – Metering (RUN-M) network layer software. Designed for automatic meter reading (AMR) applications, the new software, RUN-M (RF), will incorporate wireless extensions that conform to the IEEE 802.15.4 MAC layer standard. Using a wireless approach will now allow AMR applications to not only meter electricity consumption but to combine gas and water usage using a single network protocol.
Murata SAW resonator family for ISM-band devices
Murata's latest family of SAW resonators is designed for short range devices (SRDs) operating in the ISM300 and ISM400 bands, and achieves ±50ppm tolerance. Because of its tight tolerance, the SARCC series of SAW resonators helps designs comply with the latest ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) frequency error standard.
IDIS powers scalable video security product lines with TI's DaVinci technology
Intelligent Digital Integrated Security Co., Ltd. (IDIS), a leading provider of digital video surveillance solutions, announces it is utilizing Texas Instruments Incorporated's (TI's) TMS320DM6446 digital media processor based on DaVinci technology for two video surveillance-focused product lines. IDIS is delivering a low-cost, four channel Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and an Internet Protocol (IP) video transmitter and receiver for IP-based surveillance systems. These products help customers protect their video surveillance system investments by allowing current analog cameras to work with future, IP-based systems.
Advanced MPPC Semiconductor Detector Technology for Photon Counting Applications
Hamamatsu Photonics has expanded their range of semiconductor detectors featuring photon detection capability with the introduction of the brand new S10362-33(X) series multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC). The new device utilizes a Geiger-mode avalanche photodiode structure for ultra-low-level light detection, and the active area has been increased almost ten times from 1 mm2 to 9mm2. The MPPC is easily connected to an external circuit for simple operation and is operated from a low voltage power supply (typically 70 Volts).
VersaLogic Announces Celeron M PC/104-Plus Single Board Computer
VersaLogic Corp has announced the release of a fanless version of its Cheetah PC/104-Plus embedded single board computer (SBC). The new Cheetah version (EPM-32v) boasts the processing power of Intels Ultra-Low Voltage Celeron® M CPU, but operates without a fan and uses only eight watts of power.

TI introduces complete audio subsystem for portable devices
Texas Instruments has introduced an analog-input audio subsystem that integrates TI's field-proven stereo Class-D power amplifier and stereo DirectPathTM headphone amplifier into one compact package. The audio subsystem is highly flexible, enabling customers to choose different input-to-output configurations and program design parameters to optimize audio performance. Integrating all amplifier channels into one integrated circuit reduces bill of materials, lowers cost and enables sleeker end designs in wireless handsets, portable DVD players, portable gaming and portable media players.
Video multiplexer from Intersil combines multiformat video filtering, two universal sync separators and programmable output gain control
Intersil has introduced the ISL59450 Multiformat Video Multiplexer with Integrated Sync Separator, a device designed for the variety of video signals and formats used today. The device's video format flexibility along with programmable anti-aliasing filters and integrated sync separators, make this multiplexer the ideal choice for video switching in nearly all display systems.
National Semiconductor Introduces LVDS Crosspoint Switches, Drivers and Receivers
National Semiconductor has announced a family of automotive-grade low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) 2 x 2 crosspoint switches that deliver the industry's best signal integrity and noise immunity at data transmission rates up to 3.125 Gbps. These PowerWise crosspoints, which consume as little as 105 mW of power per channel, combine with National's line drivers and receivers to reduce power consumption and heat dissipation in a wide range of automotive applications including infotainment, instrument cluster displays, GPS navigation, and backup and lane departure camera warning systems.

Eurotech has been working with Intel Corporation as an early adopter of Low Power Intel Architecture (LPIA) devices. As a result of this work Eurotech have now released the new ISIS single board computer. ISIS is a PC/104+ format device offering levels of functionality and performance traditionally requiring a high performance x86 board, but at a significantly reduced power consumption of less that 5 watts. This fan-less x86 compatibility is achieved by harnessing the low power capabilities of the next generation embedded Intel Atom chipset.
Vishay's New 1-A Output Current Integrated Power Phototriac
Vishay Intertechnology has announced an integrated power phototriac that outputs currents up to 1A to drive resistive and inductive loads. Offered in the 16-pin DIP package, the VO3526 consists of a GaAs infrared LED that is optically coupled to a monolithic photosensitive non-zero-crossing TRIAC detector chip. This in turn powers on an integrated power TRIAC. By eliminating the need for an external power TRIAC, the device cuts design costs and saves board space.

National Instruments Recognises Global Achievements in Engineering and Science
National Instruments recognised more than 20 innovative applications developed by engineers and scientists from around the world at the inaugural Graphical System Design Achievement Awards earlier this month. Express Logic and Avnet Develop RTOS Support for Xilinx PowerPC 440 Processor on Virtex-5 FPGA

ZF To Acquire Cherry Corporation
ZF Friedrichshafen AG is further expanding its leading worldwide automotive supplier position for Driveline and Chassis Technology. Upon government approval, ZF will acquire the Cherry Corporation, headquartered in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, with production locations in Germany, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Hong Kong, China, and India (India is a joint venture with TVS Group). The electronics manufacturer develops and produces among others switch systems, sensors, and control units for the automotive industry. In 2007, Cherry had sales of approximately $ 400 million with 3,100 employees worldwide.
NI LabVIEW Monitors Structural Health of Summer Olympic Venues in Beijing
National Instruments has announced the China Earthquake Administration (CEA), the leading governmental body managing the country's earthquake preparedness and disaster mitigation, selected a structural health monitoring (SHM) solution developed by National Instruments Alliance Partner CGM Engineering, Inc., based on the NI LabVIEW graphical system design platform and NI CompactRIO programmable automation controllers. The systems are designed to aid engineers in conducting structural health research on seven recently constructed megastructures in China including both of the main venues for the 2008 Summer Olympics – the Beijing National Stadium and the National Aquatics Centre.
NMI membership increases by 50% in a year
