National Semiconductor’s New Video Timing Reference Design

National Semiconductor has introduced a new video clock reference design, now available as a module for the Xilinx ML571 serial digital video development board. National's module improves the jitter performance of the ML571 board's SERDES-optimized Virtex®-5 LXT field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and enables popular FPGA-based video solutions to easily meet the stringent Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) 424M jitter specifications. The reference design module simplifies the development of video cameras, digital recorders and a wide range of video editing and post-production equipment.

Renesas Technology PLC network layer software to add wireless connectivity to automatic meter reading applications

Renesas Technology Europe today announced that it will shortly release an updated version of its power line communications-based (PLC) Renesas Ubiquitous Network – Metering (RUN-M) network layer software. Designed for automatic meter reading (AMR) applications, the new software, RUN-M (RF), will incorporate wireless extensions that conform to the IEEE 802.15.4 MAC layer standard. Using a wireless approach will now allow AMR applications to not only meter electricity consumption but to combine gas and water usage using a single network protocol.

Advanced MPPC Semiconductor Detector Technology for Photon Counting Applications

Hamamatsu Photonics has expanded their range of semiconductor detectors featuring photon detection capability with the introduction of the brand new S10362-33(X) series multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC). The new device utilizes a Geiger-mode avalanche photodiode structure for ultra-low-level light detection, and the active area has been increased almost ten times from 1 mm2 to 9mm2. The MPPC is easily connected to an external circuit for simple operation and is operated from a low voltage power supply (typically 70 Volts).

National Semiconductor Introduces LVDS Crosspoint Switches, Drivers and Receivers

National Semiconductor has announced a family of automotive-grade low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) 2 x 2 crosspoint switches that deliver the industry's best signal integrity and noise immunity at data transmission rates up to 3.125 Gbps. These PowerWise crosspoints, which consume as little as 105 mW of power per channel, combine with National's line drivers and receivers to reduce power consumption and heat dissipation in a wide range of automotive applications including infotainment, instrument cluster displays, GPS navigation, and backup and lane departure camera warning systems.

Vishay Intertechnology has announced an integrated power phototriac that outputs currents up to 1A to drive resistive and inductive loads. Offered in the 16-pin DIP package, the VO3526 consists of a GaAs infrared LED that is optically coupled to a monolithic photosensitive non-zero-crossing TRIAC detector chip.
