Synopsys and Actel renew OEM relationship for FPGA design software
Synopsys and Actel Corporation today announced a multi-year extension of their OEM agreement for FPGA design tools. Under the terms of the agreement, Actel maintains rights to provide Actel-specific versions of Synopsys' Synplify Pro, Identify and Synplify DSP software as part of the Libero Integrated Design Environment (IDE). Actel has been offering these products to its customers for more than 10 years through an OEM agreement with Synplicity, which was acquired by Synopsys in May 2008. The objective is to provide highly optimised software solutions for Actel's complete portfolio of FPGA products, including the IGLOO, Actel Fusion and RTAX families of FPGAs.
Spectral Sensor Systems from MAZeT for Process Analytics
MAZeT has introduced multi-range spectral sensors that MAZeT uses as basis for developing and supplying application-specific sensor modules for its customers. The sensors can be adapted to the particular application both in regard to the number of spectral channels and the spectral transmission characteristics of each channel. The first sensor presented in this design has six spectral channels, whose filters from 400 nm to 700 nm overlap one another and are uniformly distributed over this range.
Agilent's HDMI 1.3 Test Solution Selected by Digital EMC for World's Eighth HDMI ATC
Agilent has announced that Digital EMC, Asia's leading test and certification service provider, has adopted the Agilent HDMI1.3 Compliance Test Solution to test its HDMI-enabled devices. The devices will be submitted for use in the world's eighth HDMI Authorized Testing Center (ATC), located in Korea. Agilent equipment is used in the majority of the ATCs worldwide.
FPGA family from Nu Horizons integrates connectivity standards for cost-sensitive low-power applications
Available shortly from Nu Horizons is the next generation of Xilinx's Spartan FPGAs for cost-sensitive applications. The eleven-member Spartan-6 family delivers expanded densities ranging from 3,400 to 148,000 logic cells, with half the power consumption of previous Spartan families and faster, more comprehensive connectivity. There are two FPGA platforms within the Spartan-6 family.

XMOS simplifies Ethernet AVB Implementation
XMOS is demonstrating an open source solution for Ethernet AVB networking in the IEEE AVB Pavilion alongside Harman International, Meyer Sound and Broadcom at InfoComm 2009. The XMOS Ethernet AVB reference design creates a complete and highly integrated AVB end-point solution for consumer and professional networked AV products. Avago Technologies has announced a new innovative flat gain, high linearity low noise gain block that can be used as either a broadband gain block or driver amplifier MMIC. Housed in an industry standard SOT-89 package measuring 4.5mm by 4.1mm by 1.5 mm, Avago's MGA-30689 flat gain, high linearity gain block operates in the 40 to 2,600 MHz frequency band and only requires a simple DC biasing match.

Wireless microcontroller technology from Jennic plays key role in ensuring greater energy efficiency
Jennic's JN5139 wireless microcontroller unit has been used by Gloucestershire based electronics consultancy firm MicroWatt to give its KnowWatt energy monitoring systems reliable RF data links. The JN5139 is optimised for low power operation, and boasts a work rate of 3MIPS for every mA of current that it draws. The device has a 32-bit RISC core, 192kB of ROM and 96kB of RAM. It incorporates a 4-input 12-bit analogue-to-digital converter, two 11-bit digital-to-analogue converters, and a temperature sensor within its 8x8mm, 56-lead, QFN package. The integrated 2.4GHz transceiver is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.15.4 communications standard, with support for bi-directional data transfer at rates of up to 250kb/s over a choice of 16 different channels.

LA Metro selects NXP’s MIFARE Plus Microcontroller IC for Ticketing
NXP has announced that Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) is the world's first transport operator to implement NXP's MIFARE Plus contactless technology for its automatic fare collection infrastructure. LA Metro, which already uses a MIFARE Classic-based system, is upgrading the Transit Access Pass, or TAP card, to include MIFARE Plus microcontroller smart card ICs. On an annual basis, LA Metro attracts approximately 480 million boardings in the Greater Los Angeles Area, and all passengers can enjoy convenient tap-and-go transport and a contactless ticketing system delivering advanced chip security features, provided by MIFARE Plus.

Atmel's Plug & Play Host-side Cryptographic Authentication IC
Atmel Corporation announced today a "plug-and-play" CryptoAuthentication host-side IC that allows designers to implement authentication-ready embedded systems, without any knowledge of security protocols or algorithms and without writing any special cryptographic software. When used with Atmel's AT88SA family of CryptoAuthentication ICs and a system microprocessor such as Atmel's AVR or ARM, the AT88SA10HS provides a complete, virtually uncrackable authentication system for electronic end-product consumables that include ink cartridges, battery packs, blood bags, breathing tubes, and others. They can also be used to protect end-products from bogus firmware updates and validate software or media modules.
