ABB provides major national media client with comprehensive electronic control

ABB has been working with Mardix, the largest independent switchboard builder in the UK, to provide electrical control for a major UK media client. The project sees ABB providing all control and distribution equipment for Mardix switchgear being installed on site. The switchgear being installed includes a variety of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) backup and generator supply switchboards, sub-mechanical switchboards, final distribution boards and mains low voltage (LV) incoming switchboards up to 6300A.

Lattice has announced the availability of a new 0.8-mm pitch 256-pin Chip-Array BGA (caBGA256) package for its popular MachXO PLD family that provides designers with a broader range of package options for implementing cost-sensitive, board space constrained designs. The Mach XO640, XO1200 and XO2280 devices are now available in the 14 x 14 mm, caBGA256 package with up to 211 user I/O. iPDKsSynopsys has announced that Synopsys and TSMC have entered into a comprehensive multi-year agreement to jointly develop, validate, support and distribute interoperable process design kits (iPDKs) that are optimised for TSMC advanced semiconductor processes including the 65nm, 40nm and 28nm nodes. The agreement is the culmination of a two year collaboration to establish an interoperable PDK ecosystem that can accelerate and broaden designer access to new process nodes, promote design reuse and enable greater analogue, mixed-signal and RF design innovation. Additionally, TSMC has adopted Synopsys' Galaxy Custom Designer implementation solution as its iPDK development and validation platform.

Fairchild Semiconductor Reports Results for the Second Quarter of 2009

Fairchild Semiconductor has announced results of $277.9 million, up 25 percent from the prior quarter and 34 percent lower than the second quarter of 2008. Fairchild reported a second quarter net loss of $24.9 million or $0.20 per share compared to a net loss of $51.1 million or $0.41 per share in the prior quarter and net income of $6.9 million or $0.05 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2008. Gross margin was 23.2 percent compared to 15.2 percent in the prior quarter and 28.6 percent in the year ago quarter. Included in these results is an $11.3 million charge for restructuring and impairments, a net $2.1 million impairment of equity investments, a $0.8 million gain associated with debt buyback as well as $3.7 million of accelerated depreciation and a $0.6 million inventory write-off related to previously announced fab closures.

A group of researchers from the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) and Agilent Technologies have developed a technique that complements massively parallel next-generation DNA sequencing, using custom microarrays to focus on genomic regions of high interest. Atmel Becomes Industry's First Supplier to Provide LIN2.1 Conformity for its Entire Automotive LIN Networking Product Range

Atmel has announced that the company has received LIN2.1 certification for its LIN transceiver ATA6662 and LIN System Basis Chip ATA6624. The LIN2.1 physical layer test, which is the basis for LIN certification as defined by the LIN Consortium, was successfully carried out by the LIN-Consortium-certified test house C&S Group, Wolfenbuettel, Germany. Consequently, Atmel's entire LIN product range fully conforms to the worldwide LIN2.1 standard. LIN2.1 conformance enables design engineers to use Atmel's LIN products for all available LIN bus systems ranging from LIN 1.3 to LIN2.0 and LIN 2.1. Designers can re-use existing hardware designs for new LIN2.1 bus systems without modifications.
