The contest was held by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), which has commissioned TAITRA to cooperate with the international brand consulting firm, Interbrand. Barix Audio Over IP Devices In Various Radio Broadcast Applications at Austrian Broadcaster ORF
Barix AG anounces that Austrian public broadcaster ORF has installed Barix Audio over IP hardware and software to improve broadcast monitoring at one of its radio stations and to support online audio streams for its website. To date, the broadcaster has installed several Barix Instreamer 100 encoders for online streams, as well as a software-based Audio over IP playback solution that provides digital audio networking for approximately 35 journalists at FM4, a multilingual radio station broadcasting in English, French and German.

ON Semiconductor - Cost Competitive 0.18 µm CMOS Manufacturing Process for Digital and Mixed-Signal ASICs
ON Semiconductor has expanded its custom foundry capabilities with the launch of a new cost competitive, industry compatible 0.18 micron (µm) CMOS process technology. The ONC18 process is an ideal platform for developing low power and highly integrated digital and mixed-signal application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) devices for automotive, industrial and medical applications. The ONC18-based solutions will be manufactured at ON Semiconductor's 8-inch wafer fabrication facility in Gresham, Oregon, so the process is also expected to prove attractive for designers of U.S. military applications seeking domestic production with ITAR-compliant partners.

First Commercial ITS Verification Test Carried out in Changchun City, China
Renesas Technology and the city of Changchun, China has jointly carried out a verification test of the world's first commercial ITS using public buses in Changchun City, China this month. The test was completed successfully. Renesas provided the WAVE terminal platform that implements WAVE communication, a new wireless communication technology, and confirmed the realization of WAVE communication used in public buses.

Panasonic and Renesas Start Operation of New Development Line for Leading-Edge SoC Process Technologies at the Renesas Naka Site
Panasonic Corporation and Renesas Technology Corp. announced today that they will concentrate their joint development functions for leading-edge SoC process technologies at the Renesas Naka site (in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture) and will start operation of their 28 to 32 nm process development line installed at that site from October 1, 2009. The two companies, by concentrating their joint development functions at the Naka site with its 300 mm wafer line and providing a joint development structure, are developing 28 nm process technologies. They are targeting the start of mass production in the near future.

NXP Introduces Intelligent Switches Supporting HDMI 1.4
NXP Semiconductors today unveiled intelligent switches supporting the new HDMI 1.4 specification released in June 2009. The NXP TDA19997 and TDA19998 smart switches support the Audio Return Channel (ARC) feature, a new option introduced in the HDMI 1.4 release, which reduces the number of cables required to deliver audio upstream for processing and playback. Building on the success of previous HDMI smart switches from NXP, the TDA19997 and TDA19998 also include support for all mandatory 3D over HDMI features. NXP is one of the first semiconductor companies to deliver silicon supporting HDMI 1.4.

Fraunhofer ISE and BASF nominated for the German Future Prize (Deutscher Zukunftspreis) 2009
This week, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and BASF were nominated for the German Future Prize for the joint development of Micronal PCM, a microencapsulated latent heat storage material for construction materials. This prize is awarded every year by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. By awarding this prize for technology and innovation, the German President pays tribute to researchers and developers who, based on outstanding research work, successfully launch new products in the marketplace.
Laser transfer printing process from BASF and Schmid
BASF and Schmid have jointly developed a new, contact-free laser transfer printing (LTP) process for metallizing the front and back of solar cells. At present, it is mainly the screen printing process that is used for metallization. The printer and paste system now developed by BASF and Schmid is based on a contact-free laser process and not only offers customers advantages with regard to handling, but also increases the efficiency of cell production. Thus, for example, the breakage rate is reduced and the throughput increased, and it is possible to handle solar cells below 180 µm. Furthermore, because they contain no lead, the BASF pastes are especially environment-friendly. The silver and aluminum pastes are also available as water-based products, i.e. free of solvents, which should lead to significant production improvements, especially in cell manufacturing.
