Oxford Instruments announces Second order from new university in Saudi Arabia
Oxford Instruments has received further orders from the newly built King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, which was inaugurated on 23 September by King Abdullah. These orders are for an Ionfab300 Plus, ion beam etch tool, and a second FlexAL® atomic layer deposition tool, bringing the number of systems ordered from Oxford Instruments to thirteen in total.

ARM announces 45nm SOI Test Chip Results Demonstrating 40 Percent Power Saving Potential
ARM announced at the IEEE SOI Conference, Foster City, Calif., the results from a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) 45nm test chip that demonstrate potential power savings of up to 40 percent over traditional bulk process for manufacturing chips. The test chip was based on an ARM 1176™ processor and enables a direct comparison between SOI and bulk microprocessor implementations. Trident Microsystems and NXP to Combine Digital TV and Set-Top Box Businesses
Trident Microsystems and NXP Semiconductors today announced that they have signed a definitive agreement whereby Trident will acquire NXP's television systems and set-top box business lines. Trident would remain fabless with a significant presence in Asia and as a result of the transaction would have a global leadership position in the digital home entertainment market. BASF specialty foam in solar collectors from the heating technology company Viessmann
The international heating systems manufacturer Viessmann, Germany, now uses Basotect to insulate its solar collectors. The light, flame-retardant melamine resin foam produced by BASF is fitted to the side walls and the rear of flat-plate collectors. Flat-plate collectors capture solar radiation and convert it into heat.

ON Semiconductor has expanded its custom foundry capabilities with the launch of a new cost competitive, industry compatible 0.18 micron (µm) CMOS process technology. The ONC18 process is an ideal platform for developing low power and highly integrated digital and mixed-signal application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) devices for automotive, industrial and medical applications. The ONC18-based solutions will be manufactured at ON Semiconductor's 8-inch wafer fabrication facility in Gresham, Oregon, so the process is also expected to prove attractive for designers of U.S. military applications seeking domestic production with ITAR-compliant partners.
