Village Tronic launches new enhanced ViBook Plus USB display extender
Village Tronic, one of the pioneers of multi-display solutions, has launched a new member of its ViBook family of display extenders that provide computer users with a simple way to run several displays from a Windows or Mac computer or laptop. The ViBook Plus is one of the first devices to use DisplayLink's new DL195 chip enabling it to support higher resolution screens of up to 1920x1200 and up to 28" with faster graphics and improved video playback that includes HD video streams.

E Ink and Freescale partner to develop integrated processors for the fast-growing eBook market
The industry's top provider of processors for eBooks has joined forces with the leading supplier of eBook electronic paper displays to develop highly integrated embedded solutions that lower costs and foster innovation for eBook manufacturers and their customers. Freescale Semiconductor and E Ink Corporation have agreed to jointly develop system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions that integrate Freescale's i.MX processor technology with E Ink's Vizplex® display controller. The partnership is designed to lower costs and expand the ecosystem of supporting electronics for the eBook market. The collaboration also is expected to spark innovation for emerging product categories such as eNewspapers, tablet PCs, laptop secondary displays, eNotebooks and eDictionaries.
Vishay Systems Web Tension Control Technology to Be Used in Coating Pilot Plant
Vishay Intertechnology has announced that it has provided a web tension measurement system to Western Michigan University (WMU) for use in its Coating Pilot Plant. WMU's Coating Pilot Plant, located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is a leading research center for papermaking, coating, printing, and recycling. Vishay is the major producer of strain gages and strain gage-based load cells, as well as systems based on strain gage technology. Vishay Systems Web Tension measurement system was upgraded in the spring of 2009, and performance trials have showed dramatic improvement in tension measurement stability with varying temperatures. The upgraded system precisely measures the sheet web tension between the coater backing rolls and the chill-roll S-wrap.
Wind River and PrismTech Announce COTS Software Defined Radio Solution
Wind River today announced that it has collaborated with PrismTech in the development of a high-performance software defined radio (SDR) solution for the military and public sectors. According to testing conducted by PrismTech, this combined SDR solution has demonstrated breakthrough performance on multiple processors from Freescale and Intel, including round trip times of less than 10 seconds to power up, initialize the platform, load waveform components, unload waveform components, and shut down the radio.

NXP Wins Supply Contract for Chinese ePassport chips
NXP today announced that its SmartMX security chip has been chosen by the Chinese government to power the country's first ePassport scheme. Utilizing the latest developments in cryptography and security to protect the chip at both hardware and software level, NXP's portfolio of SmartMX products enables data to be securely stored on the passport, creating an even stronger link between the document and its owner. The Chinese government will start issuance of ePassports in 2010, and is planning to replace all paper-based passports. At present over 30 million passports are in circulation within China, therefore substantial roll-out volumes of ePassports are expected in the coming years.

A low frequency direct conversion quadrature modulator from Linear Technology Corporation offers superior linearity performance and low noise to enhance the dynamic range performance of basestation transmitters. The LTC5598 offers best-in-class +27.7 dBm OIP3 (Output 3rd Order Intercept) and +74 dBm OIP2 (Output 2nd Order Intercept) performance. Tensilica has introduced the Xtensa 8 customizable processor, the eighth generation of its low-power dataplane processor cores (DPUs). The Xtensa 8 processor core starts at a size of just 15,000 gates, consuming less than 0.05mm2 in 40nm process technology - making it one of the smallest licensable controller cores on the market. With power dissipation starting at just 12 µW/MHz, it's also one of the lowest power licensable 32-bit architectures.

NXP’s SmartMX Chip Powers Egyptian Welfare Scheme
