Abilis Acquires Two Product Lines From Freescale Semiconductor

Developers in medical, industrial and consumer applications continuously strive to increase wireless functionality to enhance the convenience of products. Texas Instruments today announced the first member of a new product class featuring the industry's first passive low frequency interface device designed to wirelessly supply an ultra-low-power MSP430 microcontroller with energy to operate even if the optional battery is empty. For example, PaLFI has the ability to remotely communicate with and power implantable medical devices, making procedures less invasive. Among numerous other potential applications, the device is also being used for production chain or container tracking and end of line configuration of electronic equipment such as CD/DVD players and measurement instruments.

Cypress Semiconductor today introduced an upgraded module for its West Bridge peripheral controllers that offers the fastest sideloading solution for transfer of multimedia files from a PC to handheld device via the widely-used Media Transfer Protocol (MTP). The EnOcean Alliance is publishing the first global, open specification for energy harvesting wireless sensors which ensures interoperability between products of different manufacturers: EnOcean equipment profiles (EEPs). The specification, devised jointly by the members of the EnOcean Alliance, is public and accessible for anyone. It contains 50 equipment profiles supporting the development of a variety of solutions for building automation, such as switches, remote controls, sensors, sensor combinations and data of every kind. Publication of the specification is the first step taken by the EnOcean Alliance towards an international standard.
