Zoughi to Receive 2011 IEEE Joseph F. Keithley Award for Contributions to Microwave and Millimeter Wave Measurement Techniques

The IEEE has named Dr. Reza Zoughi as the recipient of the 2011 IEEE Joseph F. Keithley Award in Instrumentation and Measurement. Zoughi is being recognized for his contributions to microwave and millimeter wave measurement techniques for nondestructive testing and evaluation. The award, sponsored by Keithley Instruments, Inc. (NYSE:KEI), is presented for outstanding contributions in the field of electrical measurement. It consists of a bronze medal, a certificate, and an honorarium. The award will be presented to Zoughi on May 11, 2011, during the IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference, which will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hangzhou, Binjiang, Hangzhou, China.

The partners in a new publicly-funded European research project today announced details of the multinational/multidisciplinary program called LAST POWER ('Large Area silicon carbide Substrates and heTeroepitaxial GaN for POWER device applications). The aim of this important 42-month ENIAC (European Nanoelectronics Initiative Advisory Council) project is to provide Europe with strategic independence in the field of wide band gap (WBG) semiconductors. This field is of major strategic importance as it involves the development of highly energy-efficient systems for all applications that need power, from telecommunications to automotive, from consumer electronics to electrical household appliances, and from industrial applications to home automation.

New PCI Express Root Complex Lite Solution Uses The LatticeECP3 FPGA Family

Lattice Semiconductor today announced the immediate availability of the PCI Express Root Complex (RC) Lite solution based on the LatticeECP3 and LatticeECP2M FPGA families for use in simple bridging application to any legacy host bus. DNA Electronics Partners with Roche to Develop Semiconductor Based Sequencing System

DNA Electronics, a fabless semiconductor provider of solutions for real-time DNA and RNA analysis, announced today that it has entered a partnership with 454 Life Sciences, a Roche Company. The collaboration will focus on the development of a low-cost, high-throughput, long read, high density DNA sequencing system. As part of the agreement, DNA Electronics has signed a non-exclusive licence to provide relevant IP from its proprietary semiconductor technology portfolio to Roche. This technology which enables sensitive detection of nucleotide incorporation during sequencing will build on 454 Life Sciences' current pyrosequencing-based platform. The collaboration leverages DNA Electronics' unique knowledge of semiconductor design and expertise in pH-mediated detection of nucleotide insertions with 454 Life Sciences' long read sequencing chemistry to produce a seamless evolution from optical detection to low-cost, highly scalable electrochemical detection.

Infineon Wins Bavarian State Award for Electric Mobility

Infineon Technologies has won the Bavarian State Award for Electric Mobility. Martin Zeil, Bavarian Minister of Economics, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology, presented the award to Peter Bauer, CEO of Infineon Technologies AG, yesterday evening. The ceremony at which the awards were conferred in altogether seven categories was held alongside the eCarTec International Trade Fair for Electric Mobility in Munich. The award went to Infineon in the "Drive Technology" category for the company's microcontrollers ensuring smooth and hence efficient operation of the motor in electric bicycles, the so-called e-bikes. In addition, Infineon was also nominated for its active battery balancing solution in the "Storage Technology/System Integration" category.
