NEC Electronics Corporation has announced two 32-bit ARM processor cores that can be used with NEC Electronics' system-on-chip (SoC) design methodology to develop high-speed solutions for networking, wireless, digital consumer, imaging, storage, automotive and industrial applications. NEC Electronics' 90-nanometer, 700 MHz (931 MHz under nominal process conditions) dual-core implementation of the ARM11 MPCore multicore processor is the highest-performing ARM processor core on the market, while the NEC Electronics-implemented ARM926EJ-S processor core is the industry's fastest at 130 nm, clocking in at 400 MHz (532 MHz under nominal process conditions).

NEC Electronics has announced today that several of its existing MPEG decoders already available in mass production are supporting the DVB Audio Description Services, as supported by DTT in the UK. The LT5557, a new high linearity, 3.3V, downconverting active RF mixer from Linear Technology elevates receiver dynamic range performance while extending bandwidth capability to cover 3G and WiMAX basestation frequencies to 3.8 GHz. The LT5557 offers 24.7 dBm IIP3, noise figure of 11.7 dB, and 2.9 dB of gain at 1.95 GHz. Its performance remains robust at WiMAX frequencies with 23.5 dBm IIP3, and 1.7 dB of gain at 3.6GHz. This performance is achieved with a low -3dBm LO input drive level, enabling best-in-class LO isolation performance.
H.264/VC-1 video decoder IC from Toshiba
Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has expanded its family of integrated devices for digital television applications by launching a single-chip H.264/VC-1 video decoder IC. The new TC90490XBG decoder will help designers of high definition (HD) televisions, digital set top boxes and IPTV-based applications to quickly build both H.264 and VC-1 decoding functions into their applications. The IC is designed to work with an external scaling and processing IC, with data shared between the two via a PCI bus. It is controlled by the external companion IC with a PCI bus.
Single chip scan rate converter supports 1080p high definition applications
Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has launched a single chip solution for television manufacturers looking to improve picture quality through the conversion of conventional 50Hz and 60Hz frame rates to 100Hz and 120Hz respectively. In addition to reducing component count, the new device is the first fully integrated IC to support full high definition video applications.

Fairchild Semiconductor's FSSD06 is said to be the first multiplexer that supports high voltage and dual voltage secure digital (SD)/secure digital I/O (SDIO)/ multimedia cards, creating the ability to expand the ASIC and the baseband processor SDIO port. Altium ends financial year with continued solid growth, strong cash balance
Altium Limited the developer of unified electronic product design solutions, has confirmed its final financial results for the financial year ending 30 June, 2007. Altium ended the financial year with a cash balance of $10.7 million, up 68%. Revenues grew 18%, and sales grew 26%. As a result, Altium proposes to provide a return to shareholders of 6 cents per share in the form of a capital reduction, subject to shareholder approval at the company's forthcoming annual general meeting. For the financial year ending 30 June, 2007, sales were $57.5 million, up 26% from $45.5 million for the corresponding period a year ago.

The ACS760 from Allegro MicroSystems Europe is a hot-swap protection IC designed for 12 V high-side applications. The new device combines Allegro's Hall-effect current sensing technology with hot-swap control circuitry, resulting in a highly efficient integrated controller. No external sense resistor is required, resulting in greatly reduced I2R losses in the power path.
