19in rack-mount industrial Ethernet switches
HARTING has introduced 19in rack-mount versions of its eCon and mCon 9000 family of managed and unmanaged industrial Ethernet switches. The new units allow up to 10 Ethernet clients to be connected via RJ45 or M12 sockets (D-coding) at the front of the device. The switches are specifically designed for use in industrial environments, and support both Ethernet (10 MBit/s) and Fast Ethernet (100 MBit/s) systems. Line and star topology networks, as well as mixed configurations, are supported.

Sony adds first High Definition unit to FCB camera block series
The new FCB-H10 colour camera module from Sony Europe's Image Sensing Solutions Division addresses demanding picture quality requirements in (HD) security, videoconferencing and broadcast applications by combining 10x optical zoom with true high definition at 1080i or 720p. This first HD camera in the Sony FCB Series is an ultra-compact (47.2 x 43.1 x 72.2mm) unit and is expected to open up new areas for HD integration, including those with limited space. The camera will be used by both commercial product manufacturers and VARs looking to implement and retrofit high definition video systems.

Atmel licenses Quantum Capacitive Touch Technology
Atmel and Quantum Research Group (UK) announced today that Atmel has licensed Quantum's QTouch and QMatrix capacitive touch technologies. Quantum's intellectual property will be programmed into Atmel picoPower AVR microcontrollers (MCUs), enabling the devices to be used for both touch sensing and many other control functions, for example driving motor controls, LEDs and displays. QTouch technology is used for simple keys, while QMatrix is used for larger keypad arrays and keyboards. In addition, Atmel has obtained a license to QWheel and QSlide applications, which are used for rotary and linear touch controls respectively.

The A3423 from Allegro MicroSystems Europe is a dual-channel Hall-effect sensor designed for use in speed and direction sensing applications incorporating encoder ring-magnet targets. Samsung invests in picoChip
picoChip today announced that Samsung has made a strategic investment in the company. The amount of the investment is undisclosed, and forms part of the $27 million of new investment D-round announced in July by picoChip which was led Highland Capital Partners. The round has brought the total company funding to $70.5 million, placing picoChip in an unrivalled position to build upon the success it has already achieved in the wireless infrastucture market.

TI Delivers Network Protocol for Simple, Low-Power RF Networks
Texas Instruments has announced the release of the SimpliciTI network protocol, a proprietary low-power radio frequency protocol targeting simple, small RF networks (less than 100 nodes). SimpliciTI network protocol was designed for easy implementation with minimal microcontroller resource requirements. The protocol runs out-of-the-box on TI's MSP430 ultra-low-power microcontrollers and CC110x/CC2500 RF transceivers.
