SiTel Semiconductor yesterday received the Frost and Sullivan 2009 Global Enterprise VoIP Semiconductors Green Excellence Award in Product Innovation, for its energy-efficient Green VoIP processor range. The award is clear recognition of SiTel's commitment to delivering low-power, environmentally friendly VoIP and DECT / CAT-iq IC solutions, which enable enterprise manufacturers to reduce power consumption by up to 2 Watts per desktop phone.
SiTel’s Green VoIP ICs are based on a unique multi-processor architecture. This allows the chips to deliver excellent performance at lower clock frequencies, and enables individual functional blocks to be turned on and off as needed. These features markedly reduce power consumption for the processors themselves. Additional efficiency gains are made on the system level through smart software that controls off-chip functionality such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs).
“SiTel’s Green VoIP ICs are an exciting addition to the enterprise telephony market, with a proven architecture that lends itself to ‘green’ efficiency. This delivers clear benefits for the company’s direct customers and end users alike. System manufacturers can produce products that meet not only current legislation but also more stringent upcoming regulations,” said Jayalakshmi Janakiraman, Research Analyst at Frost and Sullivan. “SiTel’s green implementation is a unique selling point to attract end-users keen to reduce their cost of operations and carbon footprint.”
“With its potential to reduce phone bills, VoIP is causing a revolution in the telephony market. But what is less often mentioned is the increased power consumption for the end user. SiTel is extremely proud that such a well-respected independent authority as Frost and Sullivan has recognized our efforts to reduce the energy impact of VoIP and deliver greener solutions. Analysts estimate 40 million VoIP phones will ship in 2011. A 2 W power reduction in each of these would give a global power saving of 80 MW – the equivalent of a small power station,” said Asmund Tielens, CEO of SiTel Semiconductors.
SiTel’s Green VoIP range combines excellent energy efficiency and impressive performance. With a 16-bit CompactRISC™ processor plus two user-programmable Gen2DSPs, they deliver 240 MIPS of processing power. SiTel’s Perfect Acoustic Echo Canceller (PAEC), a 32-kHz codec for wideband audio and an integrated class D amplifier ensure excellent sound quality. In addition, the latest member of the family, the SC14452, includes an integrated Ethernet MAC and a hardware cryptographic engine to accelerate DES, 3DES and AES computations, allowing four secured IP calls to be handled simultaneously.
The Award was presented at the Frost and Sullivan 2009 Excellence in Best Practices Awards Banquet in San Antonio, Texas on December 15, 2009.
