electronica 2008 - JAE demonstrates HD video over DisplayPort

JAE Europe demonstrated a high definition (HD) video signal over a DisplayPort interface on its booth (B3.214) at electronica 08. The demonstration showcases the company's expertise in the use of the rapidly-emerging DisplayPort standard and is the first public showing of JAE's DisplayPort development board.

Running from a Blu-ray Disc player source to an HDTV display, the system utilises a development board adaptor with JAE connectors and cabling, which features a quad LVDS to DisplayPort link. JAE plans to work closely with TV and display manufacturers who do not yet have working chipsets to enable them to evaluate DisplayPort within their systems and identify any EMI issues at an early stage. By sharing its technology, JAE can help consumer product OEMs reduce time to market in an area that already has extremely short development cycles.

DisplayPort is a next generation standard defined by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) that can be used externally to connect PCs or consumer electronics equipment and display monitors. The standard also supports internal connections, for example between laptops and their screens. The DisplayPort specification paves the way for high bandwidth applications by offering a maximum 10.8 Gbit/s transmission rate that can support monitors up to 2560 x 1600 (WQXGA) resolution over a single three metre cable. It supports 1080p resolution, increasing popular among larger format flat screen TVs, over a length of up to 15 metres.
