Cypress have today revealed that YUAN has selected the EZ-USB FX3 controller for its UB530 USB 3.0 high-definition video capture box. The UB530 stores video input from a variety of sources, including set-top boxes, media players, HD cameras and game consoles. Cypress's FX3 solution provides a USB 3.0 device bridge to allow full HD data transfer and streaming at 5 Gbps.
EZ-USB FX3 is the industry’s only programmable USB 3.0 peripheral controller. It is equipped with a fully configurable General Programmable Interface, which can be programmed in 8-, 16- and 32-bit configurations with data rates as high as 400 Megabytes per second. GPIF II enables FX3 to interface directly to any processor, ASIC or FPGA. This high performance and flexibility was critical to enabling YUAN’s UB530 to interface with a wide range of data sources.
“High definition video and audio data transfer is an application that is well-suited for USB 3.0,” said Jayant Somani, senior director of worldwide marketing for Cypress’s Data Communication Division. “YUAN’s ground breaking UB530 video capture box leverages the unique programmability of Cypress’s EZ-USB FX3 solution to support multiple video inputs. We’re pleased to work with YUAN to bring it to market.”
“We’re proud to have introduced the first USB 3.0 full HD video capture box designed for consumer applications,” said Dr. C.Y. Ying, Director of Research and Development for YUAN. “The diversity of video and audio formats and sources was a big challenge for our designers, and the Cypress EZ-USB FX3 was the only solution that met our demands for both performance and flexibility. In addition, Cypress cooperated closely with our design teams to help launch the UB530 quickly. At YUAN, we are committed to using cutting-edge technologies to deliver high-quality, high-performance products to our customers.”
EZ-USB FX3 provides SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity in virtually any system. The on-chip ARM9 CPU core with 512KB RAM delivers 200 MIPS of computational power and is available for applications that require local data processing. Additionally, FX3 provides interfaces to connect to serial peripherals such as SPI, UART, I2C and I2S. In short, FX3 provides highly flexible and integrated features that enable developers to add USB 3.0 connectivity to any system.
EZ-USB FX3 is in volume production now, available in a small 121-ball BGA with dimensions of 10 mm x 10 mm x 1.2 mm with a 0.8-mm pitch.
